Mmmm!!! One new message on the screen of your mobile phone! Oh, look, there is another one!

And your fingers are immediately typing the reply. It`s just a second you think I`m still listening,
BUT the connection between us here is already cracked, isn`t it? So how come that the social media,
// once set to connect people,// do totally disconnect them?!
JR Jean Rene, a French photographer and street artist whose identity is unconfirmed, once claimed:
“The more social media we have, the more we think we’re connecting, yet we are really
disconnecting.” Indeed, people nowadays are losing their contacts either technically or mentally.
The communication gap hasn`t appeared in a minute. The humankind has been steadily moving to
this very stage // vigorously lasting for communication // without any barriers. At the very
beginning a telegraph helped to overcome the disconnection, then the hand line telephone was
invented… The more the merrier, they say!! and invent a mobile phone, computer and the Internet.
So here we are, another city, country or even another continent is not an obstacle anymore, the real
obstacle is the Internet itself. Indeed, our parents and grandparents spent their youth with friends,
visiting them almost every evening, since there wasn`t any alternative way to communicate, to ask
“how are you?” and get a sincere answer. However, phones were most warmly welcomed as they
gave people a chance to talk to each other staying at home. Then we call our dearest and nearest less
frequently day after day, since we think that every day is a chance to do it, but even tomorrow we do
not dial the number.
Then we`ve gained social media, where we can get acquainted to the private live details, so why do
we have to phone each other if we are exposed with photos and videos and already know the news!
No need to communicate anymore!!!! Can you imagine that? Nowadays, abundance of messengers
such as Viber and What`s App helps us to cut down personal communication. From my own
experience, I can say that most my interactions with other people now occur via Vkontakte or Viber.
Even my mom would prefer to write a text message to call someone, while my grandmother would
undoubtedly give a call. That’s the WAY the connection crumbles.
Another way is a mental conflict. According to the data presented in the article “Digital Society”
written by Radu Ciobanu there are almost 3 billion people who use social networks such as
Facebook, Instagram or Snapchat. And let’s be honest, nobody is keen to post about their failures.
So people tend to put on a sparkling glowing VEIL that PREVENTS us from facing core essence of
a person. In fact, everybody presents their life as being perfect, starting an endless chain of people
comparing themselves to one another. This will usually lead to low confidence, isolation and social
anxiety. What is more, all of the information sharing can be dangerous, through gossip and potential
abuse of the services. Examples include friendship and family relationship destroyed due to
malicious gossip circulated on a social network. Do not forget that some people become addicted to
life on the computer screen, and withdraw from personal contact. Thus, we may say that people`s
integrity fall apart due to emotional factors that appears through social media.
Summarising the ideas mentioned we can observe that sustained evolution of technological gadgets
led us to disconnection corresponded to lack of necessity to communicate and the wrapping paper
that people expose in social media that prevents us from pure, clear, translucent communication. !!!
So now I can see another message announcement appeared on the screen of your mobile phone.
Reply or not to reply, that is the question.
