On Monday and Tuesday, I improved the section “Treatments of Grief” and added

subsections: individual counseling, group therapy, psychotherapy, and cognitive behavioral

therapy. I also developed my section on “Depression vs Grief-Related Disorders.” I discussed the

International Classification of Diseases, 11th edition (ICD-11) published by the World Health

Organization and the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, 5th edition (DSM-

V) published by the American Psychiatric Association (APA). These are classification systems

that use a common language and standard criteria to diagnose disease, disorders, or conditions.

The ICD-11 provides a comprehensive list of diseases used worldwide but the DSM-V is limited

to psychiatric disorders and is used exclusively in the United States healthcare system. I used

these systems to explain differences between depression and other grief-related disorders, such

as Complicated Grief, Prolonged Grief Disorder, Persistent Complex Bereavement, and Major

Depressive Disorder. I listed the diagnostic criteria for each condition defined by either the

DSM-V or ICD-11, which are very consistent in their criteria.

On Wednesday, I scheduled an appointment with the Georgia College Writing Center to

receive some feedback on my rough drafts. I found this to be very helpful and I will continue to

communicate with them until I have completed my research paper. Thankfully, I did not have

many errors; they simply helped me with some reorganization. I also began working on my

discussion post and journal for the week. On Thursday and Friday, I added two new models of

grief management: “Dual Process Model” and “Continuing Bonds.” Additionally, I completed a

section on “Routine Interventions.” I found it interesting that there is sufficient evidence to

support that routine intervention is not effective for those bereaved in general. Instead, it is the

most effective for individuals who are at high risk or for those who have already experienced

complications in their grief process. Finally, I started working on research that I could use to

develop into section’s next week. These sections will include information on faith and religion’s

role in the grief experience and the grief experience in the United States.
