Read the passage below carefully and answer the questions that follow.

Once, there was a poor girl named Sivasangkari. One day, she was eating a rice cake outside
her house. Suddenly, a strong wind blew away the cake from her hand. She was hungry so
she ran after the cake into a dark cave. She could not see the cake but she heard someone
chuckling behind her. She turned around and saw an old woman. The old woman said, “I’m
sorry I cannot give you back the rice cake. I have eaten it. It is delicious. Take this tablecloth
home. When you are hungry, spread it out and say, “Tablecloth, tablecloth, please give me
food!, and you will not be hungry again. Then, she disappeared.

Sivasangkari took the tablecloth and walked home. On the way, she met a young
man. The man asked Sivasangkari why she was carrying a tablecloth. Sivasangkari told him
about the old woman. The young man invited Sivasangkari to his house for dinner.
Sivasangkari ate until she was full. Then, she fell asleep. While she was sleeping, the man
took away the magic tablecloth and put a similar one in its place. When Sivasangkari awoke,
she thanked the man and went home.
When she arrived home, she told her mother about the old woman and the magic
tablecloth. She spread out the tablecloth and said, “Tablecloth, Tablecloth, please give me

Read the story below and answer the questions that follow.

Sangeetha and her sisters often visited their grandfather during the school holidays. On
each visit, he would give them some coins.

One day, Sangeetha’s grandfather gathered the children together. He said, ‘Let’s have
a competition to see who can manage the money wisely. At the end of this year, tell me how
you’ve used your money.’

The children were very excited. Nithya used her money to buy and sell things. She
made a lot of money. However, she began to spend her money on expensive things for
herself. She bought whatever she wanted. Soon, she used up all her money.

Sangeetha put all the coins her grandfather gave her into a money box with a red
border. She hid the box under her bed to keep it safe. At the end of the year, she dusted the
box and showed the coins to her grandfather.

Harshini used the money to buy thread, needles, colourful buttons and cloth. She made
pretty dolls and sold them to her friends. She put the money she earned into the bank.
