How has your motivation to do public good changed?

I believe that my motivations for doing public good have been strengthened by going

through this module. I better understand the concept of philanthropy and the varying perspectives

within it. I continue to want to serve others and work with those in need to improve their lives. I

now better understand some of the ways I can do that.

Compare and contrast different perspectives and/or ideas detailing social or community issues.

Although some hearing people may believe that it must be so hard to be deaf and they

feel that they should help the deaf by teaching them English and forcing them into the

mainstream hearing culture, that is not a helpful influence or perspective. Similarly, communities

that are struggling in one way or another may not have the needs that you assume. That’s why

it’s so important to listen to the communities and people in need to best understand how you can

make a difference that will last.
