Overweight, obesity and diabetes are spreading like an epidemic in India. As per 2008 data, 1.3% of males and
2.5% of females above the age of 20 years are obese. 28 lac people die every year in the world due to obesity or
related diseases. Obesity is responsible for 44% of diabetes, 23% heart attacks and 7% to 41% of specific cancers.
Obesity is preventable and same is true for diabetes. Without the help of a doctor, without spending money one
can lose weight and prevent diabetes!
This simple method is not applicable for following categories of people:
¦ Those who have diabetes
¦ Those who are less than 18 years of age
Why we should worry about obesity?
• Obesity is a risk factor for
¦ Hemorrhage in brain, ¦ High blood pressure, ¦ Diabetes,
¦ Raised levels of fats in blood, ¦ Cataract, ¦ Liver diseases,
¦ Disease of gall bladder, ¦ Arthritis ¦ Difficulty in breathing
¦ Some cancers, ¦ Menstrual irregularities
Why we become obese?
Various factors are responsible for this. These include:
Age, Sex, Genetic factors, Sedentary life style, Socio-economic status, Eating habits, Psychosocial factors,
Familial tendency of obesity, Hormones, Alcohol, Education, Smoking, Race, Some medicines: corticosteroids,
Contraceptive pills, INSULIN
But the REAL cause of obesity is:
¦ We eat more than we really require… ¦ We don’t have physical activities…
¦ There is positive energy balance ¦ Excess calories are stored as fats
My experiments of losing weight:
¦ Fasting, ¦ Only fruits in the night, ¦ General Motors diet,
¦ Vegetable juices- fasting- fruits, ¦ Ayurvedic and homeopathic medicines,
¦ Eating something every three to four hours

The ULTIMATE outcome?!

Either weight gain! OR Weight lost initially and gained again!
Then I came across a theory called “Carbo-insulin connection” which was studied, researched and propagated by late
Dr.Shrikant Jichkar.

What is the theory?

• Excess levels of insulin are responsible for obesity
• Every time we eat carbohydrates, insulin is secreted from pancreas
• Irrespective of the quantity of food we consume almost the same amount of insulin is secreted by the
pancreas
• Insulin gets secreted in two ways: (1) Baseline secretion of 18 to 32 units, (2) Secretion of 18 to 32 units in
response to eating

Actions of insulin:
¦ Insulin is a saving hormone, ¦ As we eat insulin is secreted, ¦ Converts glucose into glycogen in liver and
muscles, ¦ Then converts glucose into fatty acids and stores as fat, ¦
Encourages storage of fats and energy,
¦ Encourages storage of amino acids.

Hyperinsulinemia:
• Hyperinsulinemia is associated with hypertension, obesity, dyslipidemia, and glucose intolerance.
• It is associated with insulin resistance and diabetes mellitus
• Excess insulin forces the cells to develop resistance to its entry
• This insulin resistance then results into development of diabetes
Effects of lack of insulin:
¦ Opposite actions take place… ¦ Firstly glucose is used for energy, ¦ Then glycogen is converted into
glucose and used for energy, ¦ Later fats are converted into fatty acids and used for energy, ¦ Later amino acids also
are used for energy.

How you can lose weight and postpone diabetes?

¦ Eat only twice in the day, ¦ Do not eat anything between these meals
¦ Have fix timings for taking lunch and dinner: 9am; 6pm; 1pm; 9pm,
¦ Avoid sweets, increase proteins in the diet

What you can take in between meals?

¦ Butter milk as much as you want, ¦ A piece of cucumber or tomato
¦ Lemon tea/black tea without sugar (No artificial sweeteners too!)
¦ A pear or fig, ¦ Orange juice (not orange!)
(Golden rule: do not eat anything!)
Some findings from my research….
In a follow up study of six months of 428 persons:
• Weight loss: average 1.5Kg in first month, 4.2Kg in 3 months and 6.8Kg in 6 months
• Inches loss: 0.5 cm in first month, 1.5 cm in 3 months and 3.5 cm in 6 months
This simple method has caused decrease of fasting insulin in a pre-diabetic from 24.4 to 5.4 in one year and the
patient also lost 6Kg!
This method has given very promising results so far. Now I am conducting research to find out association between
prakruti and weightloss.

This method requires no money, no visits to doctors and one can follow it for lifetime without any problem. Hence
we should adopt and propagate this simple method of losing weight and preventing diabetes.
