Lighting

You are consulted as Industrial Engineer to reduce the electricity bill at Reutec in Technopark. You
inspect the area where the electronic control system for the radar systems is manufactured. The
current lighting in the area is 100 incadescent lamps in parabolic luminaires to focus light on the
work surface and provide good colour rendering.
order the sequence of steps that you would take to carry out this project : {first at top, last at
bottom}

1. consider the minimum illumination levels required for the tasks to be done in the
workplace
2. determine the lowest practical height of the luminaires above the work surface
3. source available lamps from a reliable lighting supplier
4. decide on the best the lumens / beam angle ratio from the lamps available
5. calculate the theoretical work surface illumination for each lamp sourced
6. compare the theoretical work surface illumination with the minimum required illumination
levels on the workplace
7. determine the number of luminaires required
8. compare the proposed energy consumption with the current energy consumption

Visual acuity
Visual acuity (VA) is acuteness or clearness of vision, especially form vision,
which is dependent on the sharpness of the retinal focus within the eye, the
sensitivity of the nervous elements, and the interpretative faculty of the brain.
VA is a quantitative measure of the ability to identify black symbols on a white background at a
standardized distance as the size of the symbols is varied.
The VA represents the smallest size that can be reliably identified.
VA is the most common clinical measurement of visual function.

Physiology
The correct answer is: thermal cooling required → increase convection heat loss, thermal
heating is required → evaporation decrease, thermal heating required → reduce convection
heat loss, thermal cooling is required → evaporation increase, thermal heating required →
shivering, thermal cooling required → radient heat loss, thermal heating required → drinking
hot chocolate, thermal cooling required → drinking ice water
The correct answer is: air temperature → weather report temperature, Tg → GT, Ta → DB,
natural wet-bulb temperature → measured with a thermometer in a wet wick, dry bulb
temperature → temperature measured outdoors in a Stevens screen, black globe
temperature → measured with a thermometer in a black sphere, WB → Tnwb
