• Uses
o Allows remote communication with generator set via
GSM cellular phone network.
o The DSE module can communicate with base computer
even where no fixed telephone line exists. This makes it
ideal for rental or other mobile generators.
o The module can send SMS messages to engineers’
mobile telephones to alert them to problems with the
sets.
• Hardware
o DSE7300 series or DSE52/53/5500 series. NB Ensure the
5000series controller has the RS232 interface fitted.
o DSE recommend the Wavecom Fastrack Supreme GSM
modem which can be supplied by DSE if Wavecom Fastrack
required. The modem connects to the DSE module’s RS232
communication port.
o A more ‘industrial’ GSM modem that is also recommended and
supplied by DSE is the Brodersen GSM modem.
o DATA enabled SIM card provided by your GSM operator. A
DATA SIM card is one that is capable of answering a call
automatically. With many operators, they will provide you with a
different DATA number to the voice number. This is often called
a CSD (Circuit Switched Data) SIM card.
o A CSD SIM card is required only if modem communications to a
PC is required. For SMS only, a CSD SIM card is not required.
Brodersen GSM
Further details of configuration and modem connections are contained in the relevant DSE software manuals.
For example :
For Falcom Tango Modem 55-2 use the initialisation string E0S7=60S0=2&S0&C1&D2
To make the modem operate silently (without the initial handshake ‘squeal’) add M0 to the end of the string.
• Modem Setup
If your modem is supplied by DSE, it has been setup for use with the DSE controller. If it has not been supplied by
DSE you must ensure it is set to communicate at 9600 baud using hyperterminal or similar from your PC. Your
modem supplier will be able to assist with this.
AT+IPR=9600 // to fix at 9600 baud. Note: this commands needs to be sent using the appropriate current
baudrate. Again, your modem supplier will be able to assist with this
// Now you need to disconnect from the modem (DO NOT POWER CYCLE THE MODEM) and reconnect to the
modem at 9600 baud
