Smart Cities

What need your city to be consider as a smart city? Well first a city, being small or big
needs to provide the energy, water, sanitation and other basic needs. Politicians and
urban planners have been trying to cover in a smart way basic need. A smart city starts
with the implementation of the IoT solutions or also called Internet of Things, making
online population into new systems that makes that a city work.
That optimize infrastructure and government to better engage with their citizens in the
management of their own services. Sensors networks, and applications collect data on
energy usage, traffic volume and patterns, pollution levels, and other topics which are
then analyzed and used to correct and predict usage and patterns. Making with this the
data available to the people in their own devices.
Also, a smart city is defined by three layers
The first one is the technology that includes a critical mass of smartphones and devices
connected between them to the networks.
The second layer is the applications and software to practically translate the data and the
into useful information provided in alerts or insights and this ones into actions.
The third is the participation from the public. Apps that show traffic volume in real time,
are useless if the people don’t know about them, if the people is not available to take
actions, when they see a notice on their smartphones, if they saw that in a certain
moment they have to change the routes and adapt at a moment’s notice on the app.
Some cities are further along in developing these services than others, with those in Asia
and Europe leading the pack.
