Three effective measures to eradicate illiteracy in India.

Explain how the measures suggested by you will be effective

Illiteracy is the condition of not being able to read and write. Illiteracy is a major obstacle in
sustainable development of India, as it limits one’s full potential not only in accessing
knowledge but also in application of it. The United Nation’s sustainable development goal aims
to eradicate illiteracy by 2030 and India being its member also desires so. Following are three
measures proposed to effectively eradicate illiteracy in India.

The first and foremost measure of eradicating poverty should be mandatory kindergarten,
primary and secondary education of all children falling under the respective age groups. The
Indian Government, by way of Right to Education Act, has mandated primary and secondary
education of all children under 6-14 years under its flagship programme ‘Sarva Shiksha
Abhiyaan’. However, as Annual Status of Education Report – 2019 suggests, students having no
history of pre-school and kindergarten education, often show poor cognitive and numerical
abilities. Hence, in order to bridge the gap, the Government should mandate
