I recognize that this is not an easy decision for people, and | intend to make you happy that we are working together. During the next few weeks my team and I will be dedicated to taking good care of you. I want you to have a positive experience. Of course, there will be some time necessary for recuperation, but we will be there for you whenever you need us. My pager is always on, and if Tam in the operating room, the office will take good care of you until 1 am available. Please call if you have any concerns at all. Sincerely, STERRYMD PRE-OPERATIVE INSTRUCTIONS FOR SURGERY Catherine Ang August 13, 2020 1,00 PM Your procedure has been scheduled for August 13, 2020. Below you will find a list of instructions that have been carefully prepared for you. * The night before surgery, eat a full supper. On the day of surgery please make sure to have a proper meal but try to avoid anything greasy. If you take any prescribed medications, consult with Dr, Sterry as to whether or not you should take them the moming of surgery © Please bring your Xanax (anti-anxiety) and Percocet (pain medication) with you on the day of your procedure. Ifyou take Xanax, you MUST have someone come and take vou home after, the procedure, + DO NOT apply any type of perfume, or powder to your body. © We suggest wearing casual loose fitting clothes; specifically a buttoned or zippered shirt therefore ‘making it easier for you to dress and be comfortable. Please bring a baseball cap, hat or hooded sweater. Please leave all jewelry and valuables at home, © IF you take Coumadin, Persantine, or any other anticoagulanis, or any medications under doctor's instructions, please notify Dr. Sterry © Aspirin, ibuprofen (eg: Advil, Excedrin, Aleve, Nuprin, ete.) should NOT be taken for ten days prior to surgery because they inerease the risk of bleeding, In addition, all drug allergies must be noted prior to surgery © We're looking forward to taking care of you. Have Need Prescriptions - Your pres to your procedure. ions will be submitted Wednesday or Friday prior Tylenol and Advil — Or a generic form of Acetaminophen or Ibuprofen will be the drug of choice 24 hours after your procedure or once your prescription medications have finished. Multivitamin - To be taken prior to surgery and through your recovery for maximum health. (if you take a multi vitamin, please continue to take) Amica and Bromelain — Begin taking 3 days prior to surgery. These are herbal supplements which may decrease swelling and black & blue marks after surgery. You can purchase these at local health foods, GNC or pharmacy. Depends on what you purchase, take as directed. Surgical Supplies ABD Pads (our office will supply you with pads) Gentle Foods — To encourage eating and not upset your stomach. C0 Plain Crackers (Saltines) 1 Soups (Water based, not creamy) D Jello D Toast Surgical Garment: The office will supply you with 1 garment, You will wear your compression garment for 4 days for 23 hours out of the 24 hour day. You need to be aware that there are a variety of medications and supplements that can interfere with your care. If you are taking any medications cn this list, they should be discontinued 2 weeks prior to surgery. If you need something for pain, please take Tylenol (Acetaminophen). All other medications — prescription, over-the-counter, and herbal supplements- that you are currently taking must be specifically cleared by Dr. Sterry prior to surgery Aspirin Aspirin (aka acetylsalicylic acid) interferes with your platelets ability to stick to one another and form a clot. In this way, it can leave you at an increased risk for bleeding during, and after an operation. All aspirin containing products must be stopped two weeks prior to undergoing surgery Ibuprofen Ibuprofen also stops platelets from working properly and put you at a similar risk of bleeding, However, the effects do not last as long and Dr. Sterry might agree to your using ibuprofen within two ‘weeks of an operation ~ but check with him first. Alll Diet Aids — Including Over-the-Counter & Herbal Products These may interfere with your anesthesia and can cause significant cal vascular effects. Tricyclic Antidepressants These medications can interfere with anesthesia and may have cardiovascular effects. (Note: Just because it is not of this list does not mean that it is safe fo take while preparing for surgery.) Any time this occurs, follow these procedure specific instructions. Ifyou have any questions, please call the office at Leave the compression garments on even when using the bathroom, You can expect: 41) Moderate discomfort-which should be helped by the pain medications 2) There may be some bloody drainage on the dressings 3) The greatest discomfort is usually the first 24 hours. Thereafter, you will ind that you require less pain medication Please call the office it 41) Severe pain not responding to pain medication 2) Sweling that is greater on one side than the other 3) the bandages seem too tight 4) Incisions that are red or feverish 5) you have a fever 68) any other questions or problems arise You are able to shower 24 hours after the procedure. Please do not immerse yourself in a bath or hot tub for 3 weeks. You will remove the garment prior to showering, take a quick shower and replace the garments. We prefer that you do not smoke, but if you must, then please wait at least 7 days. You may drive as soon as you no longer require pain medication and when you experience no pain with this activity. Avoid sports or strenuous activities for 1 week. The compression garments are worn for 4 days. Note: You must wear the garment to obtain a good cosmetic result
