Hope Entangled

Hope is such a tricky word that gets thrown about in so many situations. Rarely does anything that we
hope for come simply, or without some struggles along the way. I was thinking heavily on this during
moments of personal change, growth, development, struggle, happiness, elation, frustration, and angst.
It wasn’t a bad thing or a good thing, it just was. I began to celebrate the entangled moments of
emotion, amidst the changes of the weather, the shortening of days, and relish the simplicity of quiet
moments with loved ones, and yes… I had bitterly cold ears and didn’t really appreciate that either. My
hair looked cute though, and I did NOT want to toss on a hat with that fortuitous happening; there are
days enough when that will be necessary. I had such a clear vision for this warm and beautifully simple
“Hope Entangled.” It sprang up into a pervasive cause for continued knitting and celebration, despite
the moments of frustration and cold which came before the hope and promise of dawn and a fresh
tomorrow.

Hope Entangled utilizes a mixture of simple techniques to make a beautiful accessory that looks complex
yet is easily achievable for adventurous beginners. You’ll find within an assembly tutorial, as well as
other helpful tips and tricks to walk you through the process from cast-on to completion. You’ll be
placing markers to track cable rows, slipping stitches in my preferred method, and rather than fussing
with a provisional cast on and join, you’ll be working a traditional cast-on and bind-off and then finishing
with your choice of either mattress stitch or whip stitch to join your ends, as the seam will be completely
concealed within your knotted portion.

Finishing Instructions:

Gently wet or steam block your work to ensure that the edges lay flat, cables are open, and
stitches are defined without overstretching.

Then, tie your band into a loose knot, keeping wrong sides down, and the twist hidden within
the folds of the knot.

Use mattress or whip stitch to join the cast-on and bind-off edges.

Gently shift your knot to cover the seam before tightening the knot into place, and you’re
done! Your own Hope Entangled headband is ready to wear!
