The World of American Business

The United States is a capitalist country and based on that, the economic system is
capitalism. It also becomes the philosophy or credo of American people. Two word which
describes the meaning of business to Americans: private and profit. There are two reasons why
business institutions have more prestige in society than any other organizations. First reason is
Americans see business based on the ideal of competition, which protects the freedom of the
individual by ensuring there is no monopoly of power. Competition in business can create a great
competitiveness and equality of opportunity in Americans people. It is also can develop the habit
of hard work for them. The second reason is through successful business careers, because
Americans has always been to rise from poverty to great wealth. In the US, the successful
businessman has become a kind of hero to American people. There are two kinds of
businessman-heroes, “the entrepreneur” and “the organization men” respectively. The
entrepreneur is a perfect example of the American ideal of equality of opportunity because he
often became a “self-made” millionaire. On the other hand, the organization men are becoming
the models of the height of success in American society. They do not recognize as pure as the
entrepreneurs because they take over and directs a great organization which was built by the
entrepreneur itself.
