1. COURIER
- Broad term referring to a delivery service
- Limit their services to delivering packages and mail
- Distinguish themselves from a postal service by offering a more speedy delivery service
- 3 Categories
i. Domestic

iii. Domestic and International
- Competitive in Price
- Can be more expensive for very light weight and non-urgent (postal service)
2. CARRIER
- Large delivery company which has a comprehensive and wide delivery network
complete with its own fleet of transportation.
- UPS (United Parcel Service of America), DHL (Dalsey, Hillblom, Lynn), FEDEX (Federal
Express) (aircrafts, trucks, vans and sea vessels)
- Palletise movements and container loads
- More comprehensive transportation network
- Frequent and high volumes
3. FREIGHT FORWARDER
- Subcontracts its delivery service to a carrier or airline
- Because freight forwarders ship regularly, and at high volumes they can acquire bulk
discounts with their suppliers and offer lower cost to you for the same services, than if
you were to go to the carrier directly.
