• Compassion, acceptance, and respect will take priority in my classroom.
• I believe in influencing my students to grow, learn, and to evolve, while making content relevant to students’ lives. • Students need an engaging and enriching learning environment to succeed. • I believe that education is powerful enough to change the world. • I will give students one minute before class ends to relax and gather their belongings. • My classroom will provide a safe and welcoming environment so that all students can grow and learn. • All children are unique individuals that must be stimulated emotionally, physically, mentally, and socially in a classroom. Student Learning • My students will receive an education that prepares them for life outside of my classroom so they are able to change the world for the better. • Student input pertaining to their learning will always be welcomed. • Students will be given opportunities to collaborate with others, myself included so that their learning can be enhanced. • Students must be allowed to have creative ways to express their potential in and out of the classroom. • Students will not be giving labels; taking away labels of “good” and “bad” students allows them to more easily succeed. • Student-centered learning is a priority; the students will be given options that let curiosity guide their learning. • Students will want to feel motivated and inspired to learn, as well as challenge themselves and their peers. Teacher Growth • Students, parents, and guardians should expect no less than my best effort in my classroom. • My goal is to facilitate student learning rather than telling students what they need to know about the content area. • I will assist students as they explore their emotions through various styles of music, and also guide them to articulate and explain their feelings. • I will teach every student, including students who already know the difference between melody and harmony, those that do not know what a note is, those who are too confident, those who are not, and those who do not care about music. • I look forward to the expansion of my knowledge, and being able to touch many lives through music. • Students can expect to be provided the best educational setting because I am driven to enrich their lives through education. • I strive to reach out to colleagues to better my classroom management and overall teaching abilities. Specialty Area (Music) • I believe that my students always need to be prepared for class; students must bring a pencil, their music, and instrument if applicable to the unit. • Music is important because it exists in every culture; music education is essential because it provides perspective about being a part of a different culture. • The content area of music can provide students with the skills to be creative, disciplined, flexible, and cooperative, which are all skills that can be utilized outside of the classroom. • Each child will be able to relate the content learned in music class to their everyday life, have wonderful memories with peers, and express themselves in a safe and healthy environment. • Students will explore composition in this content area and will be given full creative control whether to use voices, instruments, musical notation, or construct their own notation system. • Music education is the expression of the human experience through sound. • The students will experiment with improvisation, which will build ear training and critical listening skills.
