using descriptions and examples.

Questions:

1. (Identity: Short answer is fine) What are some problems that Asian Actors face when
they are looking for jobs in Hollywood? Find 2 main problems

Their English accent and stereotypes.

2. (Interpret: Detailed answer) How do you think the people who are auditioning for roles
feel when the roles are based on racial stereotypes?

They will absolutely feel bad and they might also feel awkward. Because I think all the
people around the world will love their own countries, so if the actors are auditioning for
roles that are based on racial stereotypes, they will absolutely feel bad about it, and
some of the people might feel mad about it. And also the actors audition the roles
because they want to get that role and want to play them, so I don’t think they will refuse
the roles, but when they play the roles, they probably will think:” that is not true, or we
are not acting like that ” in their heart and I think that will definitely make them feel
awkward.

3. (Justify: Detailed explanation required) when the articles says “She said she had also
lost lead Asian roles to mixed-race women who looked much more white”, what kind of
problem could that create?
I think the most serious problem is that box-office will drop. Because the movies are
adapted from novels, so there will be a lot of fo fans or readers of the novels and they all
love those novels. But when they go watching the movie then they will find the character
if not really as same as the book, the Asian character looks much more white, and I think
there will be a group of people who like that Asian character, and they probably will be
disappointed and kinda mad, also if the readers who really love that book will also be
mad because I think they won’t want that movie to be different than the books. So those
people who are disappointed will tell other people that the movie is actually not that
good, and that affects a lot. Many people won’t go watch the movie because other
people tell them that the movie is not as good as the books, and there will be another
group of people who already watched that movie, but because they are disappointed so
they won’t watch it again. I think the most serious problem is that the box-office of that
movie will drop.

4. (Detailed Opinion question): If you found out that a movie you wanted to watch had
whitewashed a role so that a white actor is playing the Asian character, would you still
watch it?

For me, it depends. If I like the book that the movie adapted, then I won’t watch that
movie. But if I am just interested in that movie then I probably will watch that movie.
Because for me, if I like the book that a movie adapted, then I really hope that the movie
is still as same as the book. If the director changed some really small things in the plot,
then I will be okay because it won’t affect the whole movie. But if the role that was
supposed play by an Asian and now there is a white actor playing it, then I will be mad.
Because a writer wrote that book will need to spend a lot of time to think on every plot,
every character, so actually the writer will have his/her reasons of all the plots and
characters we know in the book, if one of the characters is Asian then the write will
absolutely want he/ she to be still playing by an Asian. And if I like the origin book, then I
don’t want the character in the book has been whitewashed. But if I don’t really like the
book or I just interested in the movie, then I probably will still watch that movie. Because
maybe that movie is good, and I am just interested in the movie not the book so that if
one Asian character is been whitewashed doesn’t really matter to me, and also if the
movie is really not good, then I won’t watch it again.
