Psychology 1010

Final Reflection

I would like to reference the course broadly as an overall learning experience for my

future in both a personal context and a professional context. This course was the last and final

course needed as a prerequisite for the social work program at the University of Utah.

Understanding the fundamentals of psychology is vital for careers that require you to work with

people, such as social work. I am confident that I will be able to utilize the information that I

learned about human behavior in my future career as a social worker. What I appreciate about

this course is that it also helps me understand my own behavior as well as the behavior of my

family, friends, boyfriend, and coworkers. Still, I recognize that I have only scratched the surface

of social and behavioral science and that there is still so much to learn.

Prior to taking this course, I took life-span and human development as well as sociology

and statistics. I saw many parallels between Psychology 1010 and these other courses regarding

human behavior, development, research methods, and social science concepts. I was happy that

information resurfaced in this class because it kept some important points in my head and I

believe will valuable to retain for my future.

I have learned how to be analytical in this course when it comes to research correlations

and conclusions. Analyzing research is important to understand because many of us are fed

constant information from platforms such as social media and news. I believe that people should

take the initiative to read studies and citations from claims made by the media and other people

so that we can evaluate the validity of the information or so that we can at least understand how

the researchers came to their conclusion and or theory. My signature assignment which is the

evaluation of research shows that I can analyze research consistently, using the information

learned from the course and taught by my instructor.
