Prior to the applicable of any coatings, all damage to previous coats sball be touched up. Coatings found to have runs drips over spray or dry spray shall bo rejected. Such costings may be screened or sandpaper to remove the deficiency and re sprayed to the required mil thickness. Where paint application is carried out by brush, the brushing shall be done in such a way that a smooth coat of as uniform a thickness as possible is obtained. All runs and sags shall bbe brushed out and the paints shall be as free as possible from pores, discontinuities and brush marks. Paint shall be worked into all crevices and comers. ‘Where paint application is carried out by spray, the spraying technique used shall ensure that a uniform layer of wet paint of the required thiekness is deposited on all surface area. Allruns and sags sball be brushed out. If there are an excessive number of runs, the paint shall be removed and the surfaces repainted using either a more suitable paint mix for the climatic conditions or a modified spraying technique or equipment. Arcas that are in accessible or unsuitable for effective spray painting, such as crevices, crack and blind areas, of bolts and rivets shall be locally painted by brush. Each coat of paint shall be allowed to cure for at least the minimum period of time at the prevailing temperature recommended by the manufacturer before being overcoated. ‘However, its recommended maximum overcoating period at this temperature shall not be exceeded. Where overcoating of partly painted component is delayed for mor than 72 hours, the painted surfaces shall be solvent cleaned and/or fresh water washed to remove surface contamination before being overcoated. After application ofthe complete paint syster, it shall be allowed to fully cure as per the manufacturer's recommendation before the component is handled or moved.
