“All she ever wanted was a little credit card…”
Does the Girl in The Green Scarf really need it so bad that
she had ended up putting herself in a big amount of debt?
Does shopping really defines who she is?
Isla Fisher as Rebecca is, unquestionably, a shopaholic.
That’s who she is- and she’s totally aware of that. She
buys whatever fascinates and catches her eyes. Scarves,
boots, bags, dresses- she’ll buy them and doesn’t have to
worry since she got magic cards in her hand. Whenever
she shops, she feels she’s in a better world. Not until she
receives a death note. A death note that would put her
shopping life at risk. And yep, I’m talking about her credit
card bills.
Everything’s a downfall. She lost her job and been highly
indebted. Fortunately, she got a friend who always got her
back and found a new job. But her credits remained
beside her. Gladly, she finally learned her lessons as her
life reach its climax.
Confessions of a Shopaholic imparts a lot of lessons in
life. It shows someone’s material self which she thought
defines her and became hard to control. It tells about self-
responsibility. We must be responsible of our actions. If
we buy this and that, we must learn how to pay. This
movie also tells us to be contented of what we have.
There are so many unused stuff that Rebecca had, yet
she avails for more. Stores may be the best place for her
but it tells us to also live in reality. We can’t get all we want
to. We have to learn how to resist; how to save money or
should I say how to properly use your money. It also tells
us to prioritize our needs before wants.
Lastly, it tells us that being shopaholic won’t totally drown
you. You just have to learn how to control and educate
yourself. Ask yourself a thousand times, “Do I need this?”.
Thinks before you let your credit card be swiped.

How do you apply
the lessons?
Hey self! I know you got some penny on your wallet. Want
to go buy some trendy clothing? Some merchandises you
are fond with are out, want to check it out? Or do you want
to go on the biggest shopping sale? I know you do!
Well, I know sometimes my material self is ruling over me.
Most specifically whenever I have money. Honestly, I’m
not a thrifty kind of person. Why? Because I got nothing to
save! Kidding. I’m not really that materialistic compare to
Rebecca. However, I am a spendthrift. That’s why
applying the lessons imparted by the movie would be the
best ticket to enter the door of controlled self. So self, put
your notes out and keep these in mind in order to apply
the lessons imparted by the film:
Check the price tag and your money ALL THE
TIME. You have to check whether that two agrees
with each other. If not, better save your regrets
later on.
Free time? Instead of going to the mall, GO TO
THE LIBRARY! Instead of spending, go get a
constitution book and study. It is a better
investment for your future. You got your money
safe and yourself prepared.
Think you are poor even if you have received your
one-week allowance. Shien, you are poor!
Keep “Di bale nang lutang, wag lang mabaon sa
utang” as your motto. Be a living folk free from
debts. You’ll get some inner peace and stress-free
life.
Shopping? Maybe next time. You have to learn
how to say no in a nicer way. If someone asked
you if you want to go shopping with her, never be
that on-the-go person. Decline the offer.
Don’t act like Rebecca, you don’t have a credit
card.
Get your dream job and meet the love of your life.
No, it’s not part of this but it can help yourself be
happy.
Act like you don’t know the word SPEND. Put only
SAVE on your vocabulary. Want a new shirt?
SAVE.
Be contented of what you have and what your
parents give you.
Lastly, it’s not bad to break rules sometimes. Buy
yourself something too. But never exceed on the
limit. Keep yourself under control.

by the film
Sometimes I wonder, can I put myself on its greatest
show? No. Yes. Maybe.
No, because I don’t have the qualities that should be
possessed. I am not pretty. I am not that nice. I am not
smart. I’m a talentless potato. Yes, because I trust myself.
My faith is guiding me all throughout this journey. I know
what I am capable of. Maybe, I’m not really sure. Situation
changes and I’m not that prepared to be the main highlight
of my greatest show.
After watching the movie, The Greatest Showman, I have
pondered about so many things. This movie tells a lot of
lessons about life that it made unsure if can handle my
life’s own show. It uttered something to myself, “Go out.
Show yourself. Stop hiding in the darkness or else
yourself will lose the battle”.
Focusing on the physical self, the movie teaches that our
physical appearance is not a hinder but one of so many
ways to show our true self. Ugly? So what? You’re a
blessing. Don’t let your flaws be your excuse. We all
physically differ. Some are so lucky that they are born with
good genes while some are not. And the movie tells you,
that it may matter as the sun rises in the east but at the
end of the day, it won’t. People will tell you your flaws, that
you are a freak and you will begin again in the cycle of
redeeming yourself.
Aside from that, the movie will help you realize how
blessed you are. That there may be people who throw
stones at you but there are some who will give you
diamonds- you will learn how to appreciate your life. Your
life is the biggest live show you’ll ever have. You cannot
undo what you did, but you can learn from it and be a
better version of yourself.
This is me. This is real. This is who I’m meant to be.
Lastly, this movie will hand you the key on how to accept
yourself Grab the recognized opportunities and be happy.

How do you apply
the lessons?
The Greatest Showman is one of my favorite movies. To
tell you, I have watched it for about eight times back then.
I don’t why I am that hooked. Maybe because it is
inspirational and will help you learn about so many things.
I can apply the lessons imparted by the film through:
Knowing my capabilities. There are some things I
can do but I am not that confident to show it. I
have to improve my self-esteem and stop hiding
in the darkness. Just like how some of the
characters started.
Accepting who am I. I won’t be able to be
confident of who am I if even myself is ashamed
of who she is.
Improve myself. It is not yet late. Every day is an
opportunity for you to improve yourself, gain
more knowledge and experience.
Finding my own way on how to express myself. If
the characters in the movie expresses
themselves through performing, I have to find my
forte. It will help me develop myself.
Love your family. They play the most essential
part of your show.
I am enough. If she’s never enough, then I am.
She has to be aware of her worth. I have to give
importance to my worth and to the people who
can see it. Don’t mind other people who can’t.
Keeping in mind that there’s always a place for
me. I may feel lost sometimes but I know that I
belong somewhere that will make me realize of
my value.
Learn how to do circus. Maybe it can help me to
find someone who will rewrite the stars with me.
Kidding.
Being positive. There may be dark nights that I
may encounter but I must not let it win. I have to
go up and try fighting again to achieve y dreams.

Subject/Descriptive title: Tarzan, a human being who grew up in the world of apes and animals, will find
where he belongs. But, this doesn’t mean that he will leave where he shaped himself.

by the film
Imagine yourself growing up in a different environment.
You may not be the person you are right now. If you were
born in a royal family, maybe you’d be more sassy and
classy. Growing up with goons and criminals, you would
be one of them right now and find yourself in the jail. Or
spending your whole life with simplicity, you would
probably feel at ease right now. But those are different
cases, Tarzan’s life a bit more interesting.
Who doesn’t know about the guy who grew up in the
forest with apes and other animals? The hunk handsome
lad you once adore when you were still a child? I bet for a
million dollars that you know him. But this isn’t about
betting anyways. This is about Tarzan making you realize
of another side of yourself.
Our environment is one of the biggest contributors on
molding ourselves. It is where how we learn our language,
what is right and wrong, how to act properly and many
more. Tarzan is the best example how oneself adapts
from its environment. Since he lived together with the
apes and other animals, you couldn’t expect him to speak
English fluently. You cannot expect him to dress
fashionably- you definitely know the reason why. The
Legend of Tarzan will help you learn that our environment
shapes us. To fight for our own place and understand not
only the self but also other animals. You will learn about
the bond, the connection between us, human beings, and
animals. You will learn how to respect and give
importance to the life of other living things.
This movie will also tell you that yourself doesn’t stop from
learning. Tarzan still learned about the life of other human
beings like him. It means that we don’t learn only on one
environment. We also learn from our school, family,
society, etc. and these contribute to the wholeness of
ourselves. Your environment can be one of the definitions
of yourself- and I’m on the same case.
How do you apply
the lessons?
The Legend of Tarzan made me realize how lucky am I
that I was born on a much safer environment. Not that I
degrade his, but I don’t think I can live in a place where
there are snakes, frogs and other animals- it’s too scary,
is’ it?
Anyways, I am aware of Tarzan’s story but this movie got
a little plot twist. Right after watching the movie, I learned
some lessons that I failed to understand back when I was
a kid. Applying it in real life can be a great for me to
understand the impact of my environment to myself. So
here are some ways I think that can help in applying the
lessons imparted by the film:
Thank God I was born on a place different from
Tarzan. I suddenly felt blessed right after watching
the movie. I don’t know why but I appreciated it
more right now. I must be thankful that I was born
on a nicer environment that helped me develop
myself. And of course, I have parents that will
guide me on my journey. Though I really like how
Tarzan’s mom (the ape) loves him even though
they don’t share the same blood.
Be aware of my environment. Learn what is wrong
and right. What I see isn’t always right.
Honor the place where I was born and grew up.
Tarzan didn’t leave his place behind right after
knowing his identity. He fought for the place
where he was raised. I must not also forget my
community.
