Subject: Flawed Meritocratic Grading

Respected Dr. Ali,

I hope this email finds you in good health and taking good care of yourself. I am deeply
apologetic for disturbing your routine. You have always been a kind instructor to me for the
whole semester. You made me confident to approach you if I have any problem with the class or
in life. This email isn't against a specific person or a particular problem but, in general, students'
difficulties in the first year. I am very grateful to you.

It would like to bring your attention to the flawed meritocratic system in our course components
and grading. It was my first semester at university. I came from a weak educational background,
and I enrolled in Introduction to Legal Relations (ILR) in my first semester. It is our pre-requisite
course for the continuation of further LLB Program. I noticed a high number of seniors enrolled
in our class. It is highly problematic in a relative grading system to compete with seniors. They
are experts with cruel tricks of courses. Despite our dedicated efforts the whole semester, they
score better by arranging notes or studying past quizzes. It is well known that most of our exams
are the same as those of previous examinations.

They are accustomed to using unfair means and finding shortcuts such as personal relationships
with teacher assistants (TA) who mark their proxy attendance. Apart from proxy attendance, they
are also good at arranging fake medical documents around mid-term exams of final exams,
helping them get mean marks.

You have always been kind to me and helped in my course. The faults, as mentioned earlier in
your class, have many impacts on first-year students. I scored average grades in the final
examination of your course. If seniors hadn't used the Unfair means for grades, I would have
scored higher. The grading system of your course is relative.

I hope that you will take a step to address the issues mentioned earlier. I know it's impossible to
achieve an ideal environment, but it doesn't mean we shouldn't strive towards better.

Warm Regards,
