System Sizing Calculations PDF

To size a PV system, determine the annual energy usage in kWh and the sun hours per year for the location. Divide the annual energy usage by the product of the sun hours and the system's efficiency factor to calculate the necessary system size in kW. For example, a 4.45 kW PV system would be required to meet the annual 5000 kWh load for a location with 1496 sun hours and 75% system efficiency.

PV System Size Calculation
Load in kWh per Year
System Size = -------------------------------------------------------
Full Sun Hours x System Efficiency

Buffalo, NY Example:

5000
System Size = ---------------- = 4.45 kW PV System
