Hard Drives.

There are a number of problems that we are encountering with printers that have hard drives installed.

8500/8550- 49 Error
If the problem is intermittent and you can get the printer to “Ready”, go to “Configuration menu”
Scroll down to “Initialize Disk” and Press “Select”.
If this doesn’t fix the problem, replace the disk.

All printers- Disk Not Initializing or Disc device failure.


Try initializing the disk (see procedure Below), if the problem persists replace the disk.

Replacing a hard drive.

If a hard drive is new or has come from a different printer model you may need to mount it onto an
“IO pca” and initialize it.
Initializing a hard drive erases all previously stored files and formats it to the right file system for the
specific printer.

Initializing a hard.

NOTE: Before performing a hard-disk initialization, print a menu map and a


configuration page. Use the information on these pages to reset any
customer specific settings.
CAUTION: A hard-disk initialization deletes the following information: all
stored copy jobs, the local address book (e-mail addresses), the speed-dial
list (fax numbers), and the Java™ applet files.
HP 4000 / 4050 / 4100 / 5000 / 5100 / 8000 / 8100 / 8150 / Color 4550

Turn Printer Off, Hold down the “job cancel” and “select” buttons and turn the printer
on.

NOTE: The front panel lights should all turn on and stay on at this point.
1. Release CANCEL and SELECT.

2. Press MENU once to the left.

3. Press VALUE once to the left

4. Press SELECT.

The printer will initialize the disk-this may take a moment-and continue its power-on
sequence.

HP 4200, 4300,4250,4350, Color LaserJet 4600 and 5500 Series Printers:


1. Turn the printer off.

2. Power the printer on, wait about 3-5 seconds, then hold down the Pause/Resume key
(Menu key on 4250,4350) on the control panel until all three LEDs are lit.

3. Press the back arrow ( ) button. The display will show INITIALIZE DISKS.

4. Press the Select ( ) button. The printer will initialize the disk-this may take a
moment-and continue its power-on sequence.

HP Color LaserJet 3000/3800 series printers


1. Turn the printer off and then on.

2. When the printer begins its initialization sequence, press and hold MENU until all LEDs
are lit.

3. Press the back arrow one time. INITIALIZE DISK appears on the control-
panel display.

4. Press checkmark one time. A series of asterisks appears on the control-panel


display. Wait for the printer to complete its initialization sequence.

HP LaserJet 9000 series printers


1. Turn the printer off.

2. Power the printer on while holding down the PAUSE/RESUME key on the control panel
until all three LED's cycle on and off and then back on.

3. Then press the Back button

4. The following will be displayed on the control panel: INITIALIZE DISKS.

5. Press the SELECT button.

6. The printer will begin initializing the disk (this may take a moment) and then the
control panel will display the HP Event Logo and eventually come to a READY
status.

HP LaserJet 9050 series printers


1. Turn the printer off.

2. Power the printer on while holding down the MENU key on the control panel until all
three LED's cycle on and off and then back on.

3. Then press the Back button

4. The following will be displayed on the control panel: INITIALIZE DISKS.

5. Press the SELECT button.

6. The printer will begin initializing the disk (this may take a moment) and then the
control panel will display the HP Event Logo and eventually come to a READY
status.

HP Color LaserJet 9500 series printers


1. Power off, then power on the printer.

2. Press and hold Pause/Resume during memory count; wait for the three LEDs to
light up together.

3. Release Pause/Resume and press the left navigation button.

4. When Initialize Disks appears, press Select.

CAUTION: For printers in this series with MFP copy modules, initializing the
hard drive will delete MFP firmware that is stored on the hard drive.

HP Color LaserJet 9500mfp


1. Power off, then power on the MFP.

2. Press and hold Start during memory count; wait for the three LEDs to light up
together.

3. Release Start and press 5; the screen displays Initialize Disks.

4. Press 6; the screen displays Continuing Boot Sequence while the hard disk
initializes. Wait for the home screen to be displayed.

HP LaserJet 4100 MFP/9000 MFP series printers


1. Turn off the printer.

2. Power the printer on while holding down the START button on the control panel until
all three LEDs cycle on and off and then back on again.

3. Press the Back Button.

4. The following will be shown on the display:

INITIALIZE DISKS

5. Press the Select Button.

6. The printer will begin initializing the disk (this may take a moment) and then the
display will display the hp event logo and then eventually come to a READY state.

HP Laser jet 4345 MFP


1. Turn the MFP off and then on.
2. When the memory count appears on the control-panel display, press the
right-hand side of the START button until all three LEDs are lit. Release the
START button.

3. Press 5 one time. INITIALIZE DISK appears on the control-panel display.

4. Press 6 one time. A series of asterisks appears on the control-panel display.


Wait for the MFP to complete its initialization sequence.
