MODULE OUTLINE
Course Code: NCM 100
Course Title: Foundations In Nursing
Course Description:
This course deals with the meta-concepts of a person, health, environment and nursing as viewed by the different
theorists. Likewise, it includes non-nursing theories such as systems, developmental and change theories. It presents
how these concepts and theories serve as guide to nursing practice. It further deals with health as a multi-factorial
phenomenon and the necessary core competencies that the nurse needs to develop. The learners are expected to
integrate theories and research findings to nursing practice.
UNITS: 3 units
CONTACT HOURS: 54 hours lecture
COURSE LEARNING OUTCOMES:
At the end of the course, students are expected to:
1. Use knowledge of nursing and related theories in carrying out the art and science of nursing.
2. Utilize guidelines and principles of evidence-based practice in the delivery of care.
3. Connect effectively with others thru speaking, writing, and presenting ideas with the use of nursing theories
4. Collaborate with inter-intra- and multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural teams in relation to nursing theories
5. Elucidate management and leadership concepts and principles in selected theories.
6. Be updated, with passion, in lifelong events, locally, nationally and globally in matters of health and nursing
7. Exercise the Filipino culture and values when engaged in health care activities.
8. Apply techno-intelligent care systems and processes in understanding nursing theories.
9. Adopt the nursing core values and the SCMT core values in the application of the nursing theories.

Outline: This module outline has the following contents: course code, title, course description, units and number of

Module: Each module consists of specific learning outcomes, learning content, application, assessment, synthesis and
