I-Human, gestational hypertension, 83%

I started the scenario in I-Human with H. G, 32-year-old female 72 hr postpartum who

was admitted for gestational hypertension with a BP of 158/90 upon admission. I achieved a

score of 83%. The Pt had a medical history of gestational hypertension diagnosed at 32 weeks of

gestation. Through the scenario the patient’s blood pressure continued to elevate to l64/100

which granted the indication to give 20 mg of Labetalol IV. Her temperature was elevated since

the admission (101.4F). Further assessment revealed sharp pain in the right nipple area, together

with redness, warmth, firmness, and tenderness. The patient didn’t have any prescriptions for

pain or to decrease her temperature so it was necessary to inform the HCP of the new findings. I

was able to select most of the correct assessments in the health history and the physical, however

I didn’t select all the appropriate actions to improve patient comfort while waiting for more

orders from the doctor. I deepened my knowledge in gestational hypertension and in s/s and

treatment of mastitis. Also, I overlooked s/s that guaranteed suggestion for further evaluation for

postpartum depression. The patient was tearful and very worried during the whole examination.

My strength in this scenario was my assessment which discover a new symptom and knowledge

related to possible mastitis and my weakness was not paying enough attention to psychological

symptoms related to pregnancy.
