PLAN

Design of flat slab:

Consider panel of 5.75mx4.0m

Self weight of slab( Assumed 1.5m thick )= 1.5x 2.5= 3.75 t/m2

Live load = 30 t/m2

Total load= 33.75 t/m2

The span to depth ratio is 3 and hence steel provided at the 0.2% of each face is equivalent
to 150mm c/c is adequate as expected bending moment does not required even 0.2% of
steel.

Provide 16mm dia bars at 150 cm c/c

Calculation of shear stress: M30 used for flat slab.

The depth of slab is governed by shear consideration ( to limit the shear without need for
extra shear reinforcement) and depth of flat slab is kept same as capping beam of jetty as
these are integrated.

1.2m

0.6m

Area reduction= 3.14x2.4*2.4/4= 4.52 m2

Total area = 5.75x4.0= 23.00 m2

Factored load = 33.75 t/m2

Hence, shear at critical section= (23-4.52)x33.75= 623.70 t

Shear stress= 623.7/(3.14*2.4)=82.762 t/m2 i.e. 0.827 N/mm2

Shear strength= 0.25xsqrt of fck= 0.25x sqrt of 30=1.369 N/mm2

Hence, shear strength greater than shear stress.

Load on Pile at Crane platform( pile including capping flat slab is embedded in the
compacted murum filling and it is also integrated with jetty hence the pile will be
designed mainly for the vertical force).

Load on intermediate pile

Dead load from crane platform=4.875x4x1.5x2.5 t/m3= 73.125 t

Live load of crane= 4.875x4.0x 30t/m2= 585t

Total load on pile= 658.125 say 660 t= 6600 KN

Allowable load on Pile - As per IS2911(Part1/sec2)-2010. Refer FIG.3 Consistency and shear
strength of weathered rock.

Qa=Cu1*Nc*3.14(B)^2/(4*FS) + Alpha*Cu2*3.14*B*L/FS

Where, Cu1=Shear strength of rock below the base of the pile in KN/m2

Nc=Bearing capacity factor taken as 9

FS= FOS usually taken as 3

Alpha= 0.9( recommended value)

Cu2=Avg. shear strength of rock in the socketed length of pile in KN/m2

B=Dia of pile

L= Socketed length of pile in m

Therefore, Allowable load on pile

Qa=6000x9x3014x(1.2)^2/(4x3) +0.9x4000x3.14x1.2x2.5/3

=20347.2+11304=31651.20 KN=3165.12 t

Checking capcity of pile to bear the expected vertical load:

Dead Load + live load =660t

Stress in concrete=660/(3.14*1.2*1.2/4)=583.86 t/m2

Which is far less than the permissible stress of M40 concrete. In addition there is

reinforcement to take care of moment which will be of negligible order.
