Sale of air tickets.
Travel agencies accredited by the International Air Transport Association recognized by
IATA, the International Air Transport Association, sell the tickets on behalf of the
airlines, obtaining a commission that constitutes the main income for them, the
percentage ranges between 1% and 9%, established in international agreements of the
airlines on the sale of tickets. These commissions are deducted from the biweekly
payments made through the BSP (Billing and Payment Plan).
The Billig and Settlement Plan (BSP), is a system in which travel agencies cancel the
value of their sales to IATA, to liquidate each airline.
In addition, all documentation on tickets and reports is handled directly through this
association. Travel agencies not accredited by IATA, become intermediaries between
another travel agency and the traveler, from said sale they get a commission agreed
between both.
Sale of tourist packages.
Travel agencies make and promote what are called packages that are integrated tourist
services of transport, hotel, visits and transfers that, by obtaining special discounts with
service providers, allow them to offer trips that are very attractive to their clients. From a
package, since agencies constantly receive offers from hotel chains and wholesale
companies that, in different parts of the world, offer integrated hotel services, visits and
transfers, together with a large number of congresses and tourist fairs, where they
converge travel agencies to receive and offer their promotions. For all reservations
made by these agencies to hotels, shipping companies or trains, they are entitled to a
commission agreed between travel agencies and the companies that provide the
service.
