 At first, he wanted to be an Architect, but it was his family’s dream of having a


lawyer in the family
 Pre-law course: Political Science
 He graduated from San Sebastian – College of Law
 He joined a law firm for two years
 He is a Corporate Lawyer in one of the biggest companies in the Philippines
 He is also a litigating lawyer, he represents the company in court
PERSONAL EXPERIENCES:

 Culture in the corporate world vs. law firm


 Balancing his work as a lawyer engage in the practice of law, and an employee in
the business of the company
 Board Meetings – not that formal because the culture is diversified; he had an
experience attending a board meeting from 8am-7pm.
CASES HE HANDLED:

 100M claim of money for almost a year, they had an amicable settlement instead
of the court proceedings. The claimant and him ended up being friends (most
memorable and significant)
 Criminal case: it involved millions of pesos, the Court of Appeals ruled in their
favor against the opposing party (represented by a well-known lawyer)
ISSUES AS CORPORATE LAWYER:

 Compliance with the Regulation (Banking Laws) (Housing Laws) etc.


ESSENTIAL SKILL FOR A CORPO LAWYER:

 Flexibility - business and lawyering are not compatible most of the time; one must
be able to balance his role as a corporate employee and a lawyer
THE FOLLOWING ARE THE DUTIES OF A CORPORATE LAWYER:

 They make reports for SEC compliance


 They draft articles of incorporation in compliance with the law
 They are tasked to make sustainability report (with regard to the environment)
WOULD YOU ENCOURAGE YOUR STUDENTS TO ENGAGE IN THE
CORPORATE WORLD?

 YES! (BUT not until they are equipped with legal knowledge and experience)
