(6) BODY IN WHITE DESIGN FUNDAMENTALS (PART 1) | Linkedin _tps:/www linkedin com/pulselbody-white-biw-design-fundamentals-pa.. 40f6 © | emi The baseline BIW design is constructed with two major assemblies withthe scope of identifying aggressive optimization techniques. It comprises of the upper body and the under body. However the remaining components in the under body is made of stecl structures. So the underbody design traditionally is fabricated by steel parts which was spot welded structure in the design. This construction inthe design will enable the performance of the BIW for bending and torsional stiffness. The upper body mainly consists ofthe passenger compartment and the rear compartment of the vehicle ‘Side impact conditions were more challenging since there will be very litle space to absorb the energy and protect the occupants in the design. In the current BIW design the side impact crash condition has been managed with the design of the cross members in line with impact positions. The cross members in the LH and RH were also lined up to establish a lateral transfer ofthe load from one side ofthe vehicle to other side of the vehicle. The lateral load transfer will enable the vehicle to move instead of lager intrusion into the passenger compartment, Messing 05-08-2020, 00:21
