1. ​Rapid Reading
a. Skimming
- getting the general idea / main idea
- getting the overview of the material
b. Locating the Main Idea
- identification of the central message
c. Scanning
- looks over the material to get specific ideas only

2. ​Previewing​ - focuses on relevant informations


- allows readers to set the purpose and link the content to their background
knowledge.

Browsing - inspecting the material unhurriedly

3. ​Literal Reading​ - involves understanding of ideas and facts that are directly stated
a. Summarizing - condensing a lenghty text into a shorter passage
b. Paraphrasing - restating ideas but cites and preserves the tone and message of the
original text

4. ​Inferential Reading​ - the process of deducing facts and ideas not directly expressed.
- also called 'reading between the lines'
- includes generalizations, inferences, and conclusions

5. Critical Reading - the close and thorough evaluation of the claims in terms of relevance,
validity, and logic.
- distinguishing facts from opinion
- detecting logical fallacies
