VA Falsifying Numbers
Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to describe how the Veteran’s Administration falsifying
documents is a crime. Many veterans did not receive proper medical care due to fabrication by
the Veteran’s Administration. This paper will discuss who should be held accountable for such
actions, what criminal offenses that occurred, and the toll it takes on our returning troops.
Falsifying medical documents with deceitful intent is a crime and can come with heavy
consequences (va.gov, 2012). In the scandal of the Veteran’s Administration (VA) fabricating
various documents, there was intent to conceal and change documents for personal gain.
Therefore, many veterans did not receive medical attention and some, consequently, died
because of it.
The VA was under investigation for falsifying wait times of numerous veterans waiting
to receive medical care, appointments, and imaging studies. These documents were manipulated
VA management officials and employees responsible for the forgery should be held
responsible. According to VA.gov (2012), this includes those who know about the altered
records. Training and policies should be held in place to prevent such acts of negligence.
Many veterans were affected by this crime and did not receive proper medical care
because of it. Policies, such as employment verification checks that VA management officials
are supposed to conduct did not happen due to negligence. The checks would ensure candidates
with good moral ethics to do the job properly. Check and balances are set in place for the benefit
of the patients. Without it, many people do not receive the proper medical care and suffer
because of it.
