Ans To The Question No 01 (1)

To build my own rural homestead, I will use "Kutcha House" housing type besides "Wattle and Daub" construction
technique with "Cross Gable" roof. The materials I will use to build my homestead are:
Plinth : Earthen plinth with timber
Post : Bamboo
Wall : Earth, Bamboo, Jute
Roof : Rice straw with split bamboo

There are some construction method, I will conduct during building my homestead. I have to go on step by step
and in traditional way.
At first, I need to treat the bamboos. So, I have to stack the bamboos vertically for around two weeks and should
dry them for one week in a shaded place. Then, I have to place some timber vertically in the ground with having a
planning, from where the posts will stand and fill the area with mud up to minimum one feet for the plinth. Before
framing for the wall, the framework should include bamboo as a structural post to support the roof. The frame
should have cross-bracing to increase its sturdiness. For bamboo framework, substantial horizontal members
made of larger split bamboo sections tied together should be used at three intervals to reduce the size of panels to
be filled in with smaller split bamboo sections and earth. This bears the weight of the earth plaster adequately,
which can cause frame distortion and make the plaster fall off. Jute rope will be used for tying together the
elements of the frameworks. Bamboo posts used for the framework should be treated against decay and insect
attack. Then, I have to plaster with earth. After that, I have to make a fame of split bamboo that has two parts that
cross. The two roof sections of Cross Gabbled Roof are put together at a right angle and the two ridges formed
are perpendicular to each other. Finally I will fill the top of the frame of the roof with rice straw.

I will make my rural homestead in this process because this has some inherent advantages. It is
extremely malleable and offers better insulation than steel and concrete structures. It decentralizes the
construction process because it utilizes local material. It also costs much less to maintain.
