There are various types of roof that are seen in the rural architecture of Bangladesh.
Flat Roof
A Flat Roof is easy to build. It can have a slight slope to assist in shedding of water. They are sometimes referred
to as Low Slope
Roofs. It can be made of brick or concrete.
Gable Roof
Gable roof is a very triangular roof. The gable allows rain to run off easily. This roofing type has two roof surfaces
that are of the same size. They are pitched at the same angle back to back. This makes a ridge at the top and
forms a triangular roof.
Cross Gable Roof
This is like the gable roof but has two parts that cross. The two roof sections of Cross Gabbled Roof are
put together at a right angle. The two roof sections of Cross Gabbled Roof are put together at a right angle and the
two ridges formed are perpendicular to each other.
Hipped
A low-pitched roof that allows rain to run off easily. The hipped roof also allows for large eaves on a building. This
type of roof is similar to gable roof with all sides of the roof slopes that meet the walls of the house.
Cross Hip Roof
This roofing type has two parts that cross. The two roof sections meet at a point that is called a valley.
Pyramidal Hip Roof
This is a hipped roof type that forms a pyramid shape. There are four equal triangles that meet at a single point at
the top of the roof.
Saltbox Roof
This roof type is similar to a gable roof. It has two sides that are not symmetrical to each other.
