The Present Continuous

 FORM  Subject + am / is / are + verb-ing + complements

 Affirmative - You are watching TV.


 Interrogative - Are you watching TV?
 Negative - You are not watching TV.

 WHEN DO WE USE THE PRESENT CONTINUOUS?


- USE 1 Now

Use the Present Continuous to express that something is or is not happening


now, at this moment.

 You are learning English now


 Are you sleeping?

 They are not watching television.

- USE 2 Longer Actions in Progress Now

Sometimes, we use the Present Continuous to say that we are in the process of
doing a longer action which is in progress.

 I am studying to become a doctor.


 Are you reading the book “Tom Sawyer” ?

- USE 3 Near Future

Sometimes, we use the Present Continuous to indicate that something will or


will not happen in the near future.

 Isn't he coming with us tonight?
 We are meeting some friends after work.
