The Urban transportation network extends in all the directions. The

city's public transport stations are an important part of urban
public transport system. The buses greatly make the people’s travel
convenient and it is one of the indispensable infrastructure
facilities of a modern city. If you would like to know the city
better, it is a great choice for you to make a city tour by bus. But
if you have difficulties of language communication, you may find
yourself in an awkward situation. So in this issue of “Survival
Chinese”, we will choose the bus station as a conversation scene to
help you resolve the problems that may happen when you at the bus
stop.

1. 在车站（一） 对白中英文对照

A：你好，请问你是本地人吗？
Excuse me. Are you from around here?

B：是的， 我在这里工作，请问你需要什么帮忙吗？
Yeah, I work here. Do you need some help?

A：我想知道从这里坐几路车到体育馆？
Yes. Do you know what bus leads to Stadium?

B：嗯，让我想想，应该是十四路公共汽车。
Well, Let me think. I believe the 14th bus.

A：是十四路么？
The 14th bus?

B：嗯，是的。
Yeah, that’s right.
它应该有体育馆那一站。
There should be a bus stop right at the Stadium.

A：也就是说我不用转车，对吗？
And I don’t have to change buses, do I ?

B：对，不用，大概坐四五站地，就到了。
No. you just go up maybe 4or 5 stops and you’re there.

A：听起来挺容易的。
That sounds pretty easy. B：嗯，不过，问题是那一站的站名叫古安街站。
Yeah, well, the problem is that the bus stop there is named Gu’an Street Stop.

A：哦，难怪我找不到。
That’s why I couldn’t find it.

B：是啊。
I know.

它应该取一个叫体育馆站之类的名字，因为古安街站很多人不认识，这个名字不太好。
It should be named something like Stadium Stop, because lots of people don’t know Gu’an Street.
That is not a very good name.

A：嗯，我想也是。
Well, I think so.

好像那个就是十四路，我先上车了。
That looks like bus No.14. I’d better get on.

Do you mean the national Theater on the Chang’an Street?

Yes, that’s the one. Do you know how to get there?

B：哦，我也去那儿，你跟着我就行了。
I’m going there myself. You just come with me.

A：你是去看《梁祝》的演出吗？
Are you going to the performance of Butterfly Lovers? B：是呀，你也是吗？
Yes I am. I guess you are as well.

A：是的，我很喜欢那部戏。
Yes , and I really enjoy that play.

从这儿到剧院有多远？
So how far is the theater from here?

B：大约 3，4 站地吧，可能十五分钟左右。

It’s about 3 to 4 stops from here, maybe 15 minutes.

我们的车到了。
There’s our bus now.

A：噢，太好了。碰到你我真幸运。
OH, good. I sure was lucky to find you.

A：嗨，李雷，来这里看看公共汽车时刻表。
Hey, Lilei . Come and look at this bus schedule over here.

B：好的，找到去港口的公共汽车了吗？
Okay. Have you found a bus going to the Harbor yet?

A：找到了。
I think so.

二十三路，不过今天晚上的末班车好像已经过了。
The 23rd bus, but it looks like it has stopped running tonight.

B：现在几点了？
What time is it now?

A：大约十点钟。
It’s about ten o’clock.
这里说末班车的时间是九点四十五分，可是这已经是十五分钟以前的事儿了。
This says the last bus leaves at 9:45, but that was only 15 minutes ago. B：你的意思是？
What does it mean?

A：我的意思是说末班车车离开第一个站也就是永兴街。
It just means the last bust left the first stop, Yongxing Street.

B：那它开到这儿大概得三十分钟吧。
It should be getting here in about thirty minutes.

A：对啊，我怎么就想不到这层呢？
Oh, yeah. Why didn’t I think of that.

B：我希望这车快点来，看来要下雨了
I hope it hurries. It seems like it’s going to rain.

A：别担心，我带伞了。
Don’t worry. I’ve brought my umbrella with me.

Yes, of course. That bus said Sihui on it.

B：我知道，但这张时刻表上说 728 路车到四惠广场，而 65 路车到四惠街。

I know，but this schedule says that bus 728 goes to Sihui Square, and bus 65 goes to Sihui Street.
A：什么意思？
So what?

B： 刚才那辆车是 65 路。
That was bus 65.
