1.

The origin of life are suggested to have happened in many ways of which some say Nucleic acids
arose before the proteins and others are of the fact proteins arose before the nucleic acids.

With regards to the Nucleic acids arising before the Proteins, theory explains that there existed a
form of RNA capable of coding for its own replication.

2. Differences between prokaryotes and eukaryotes

EUKARYOTES PROKARYOTES
Complex and usually large Simple and small
Organelles present Organelles absent
Have a well-defined nucleus Have no nucleus
Plant cell wall is made up of cellulose Bacterial cell wall is made up of
peptidoglycan
Enzymes for oxidation reactions located in Enzymes for oxidation reactions located in
the mitochondria the plasma membrane

3. Are the sites of protein synthesis the same for both prokaryotes and eukaryotes?

Protein synthesis occurs in the ribosomes. The ribosomes of eukaryotes are attached to the
endoplasmic reticulum whiles the ribosomes of prokaryotes are dispersed in the cytosol.
Therefore the sites for protein synthesis are the same for both prokaryotes and eukaryotes.
