Definition of Terms

The following terms were defined conceptually and operationally for a better

understanding of this study:

Animation. This refers to the simulation of movement created by displaying a

series of pictures, or frames. Cartoons on television are example of animation.

Animation on computers is one of the chief components of multimedia presentations.

There are many software applications that enable you to create animations that you can

display on a computer monitor(WebOpedia.com., 2013). In this study, the term pertains

to the transitions of slides and systematic entrance of texts and clip arts for a smooth

flow of information.

Assessment.It is the process of collecting information that describes student’s

achievement in relation to curriculum expectation (Bilbao, et. al Curriculum

Development, 2008). As used in the context of the study, the term refers to the

instructional PowerPoint Presentation used systematically gather and analyze evidences

to meet the expectation and standards.

Background. The part of a pictorial representation that appears to be in the

distance and that provides relief for the principal objects in the foreground(Houghton

Mifflin Company, 2009).In this study, the term pertains to the templates used to

support the delivery of messages of the topic in the presentation.

Citation. The act of citing a passage from a book, or from another person, in his

own words; also, the passage or words quoted; quotation (ThinkExist.com., 2013). As
used within the context, the term refers to the quoted references such as the authors,

web pages and etc.

Content. The meaning has to do with subject matter: the content of a history

class might be American history. The content of a math class might be geometry. As

long as there's a topic or subject, there's content (Vocabulary.com., 2013).In this study,

the term pertains to the topics presented in the syllabus with regard to Language and

Literature Assessment.

Development.It means a progression from a simpler or lower to a more

advanced, mature, or complex form or stage. It is also defined as the gradual

advancement or growth through a series of progressive changes. Development is a

process, not a level. It is a path to achieve certain goals(WikiAnswers.com, 2013).As

used within the context of this study, the term refers to the modification of recent study

which is Development and Evaluation of Instructional PowerPoint Presentation for

Language and Literature Assessment in a much effective and efficient study.

Evaluation.The process of determining the value of something or extent to which

goals are being achieved. It is a process of making a decision or reading a conclusion

(Bilbao, et. al Curriculum Development, 2008). As used within the context of this study,

the term refers to the process of judging the value or worth of the instructional

PowerPoint presentation developed by the researchers. Graphics. The process by

which a computer displays data pictorially (Answers Corporation,2013). In this study,

the term refers to the representation of information using smart arts and different

charts.
Instructional Materials. Educational resources used to improve student’s

knowledge, abilities and skills to monitor their assimilation of information and to

contribute to their overall development and upbringing (The Great Soviet Encyclopedia,

2013).As used in the study, it pertains to the equipment used in the teaching of a

particular subject. The term also refers to the developed instructional PowerPoint

Presentation developed by the researchers.

Language and Literature Assessment. It explores a range of assessment

principles and techniques based on some models of testing and evaluation which

recognize the impact of the assessment context on student performance. Stress is given

on those instruments and assessment methods which provide direction for

instruction(Meduranda, M D., 2012).In this study, the term refers to the subject matter

used by the researchers in developing the instructional PowerPoint Presentation.

Layout. Master plan or blueprint of a printed or published work such as an

advertisement, book, magazine, newspaper, or website that lays out the arrangement

of its different graphic elements such as body copy, colors, headlines, illustrations,

scale. It establishes the overall appearance, relative importance, and relationships

between the graphic elements to achieve a smooth flow of information and eye

movement for maximum effectiveness or impact (BusinessDictionary.com, 2013). As

used within the context, the term refers to the systematic arrangement of templates,

clipart and different graphics to retain the flow of information within the transitions of

slides in the presentation.


PowerPoint. It is a presentation program developed Microsoft. The software

allows users to create anything from basic slide shows to complex presentations. A

multi-media tool that reaches with different styles. It is a complete representation

graphics packages (Per,2013). As used in this study, this refers to software application

used by the researchers to developed the instructional presentation.

Rubric. It is a scoring tool that teachers use to assess student learning after a

lesson. Using a set criteria and standards (directly tied to the started learning

objectives) (Beth, Lewis. 2013). In this study, the term refers to the assessment tool

used by the evaluators in justifying and evaluating the research study.

Research and Note taking. Systematic investigative process employed to

increase or revise current knowledge by discovering new fact (BusinessDictionary.com,

2013). Note taking is the art of taking someone else's words or paraphrasing the

information into something you understand and can study better (Ericdenby.2010). In

this study, the term research and note taking pertained to the gathered information

about Language and Literature Assessment that is integrated, arranged and modified by

the researchers to develop the recent study.
