MULTI COMPONENT DISTILLATION (MCD)

ASSIGNMENT – 1
1. Write a note on selection of key components in Multi Component Distillation
systems.
Or
Importance of understanding and selecting key components on basis of their
volatility when dealing with Multi Component Distillation system.
2. Explain (i) Light Key (ii) Heavy Key (iii) Split Key (iv) Adjacent Key (v) Non-Key
Components.
3. Component A, B & C are available in distillation system at normal conditions.
Composition of distillate is 60% component A, 30% B & 10% C (by mole). Partial
pressure of component A is less than that of water. Boiling point difference between
component A and water is exactly as normal temperature. Component B will start
degrading at a temperature which is a difference between boiling temp of water and
standard temperature. What is the boiling point of component A? What is the
degradation temperature of component B? What should be the operating conditions,
explain? What are the adjacent key components?
