Document purpose
This instruction allows you to successfully start PMM using Variable Speed
Drive Triol AK06 in vector control mode.
Triol vector control mode allows you to maximize the energy efficiency by
keeping the motor power factor close to 1, thereby minimizing heat dissipation
in the equipment caused by the exchange of reactive energy between the plant
elements.
As the vector control algorithm is a mathematical model of the entire
installation (VSD + step-up transformer + cable line + motor + pump), and
entering of accurate characteristics / parameters of the equipment allows to
ensure the correct operation of the installation.
Special algorithms integrated into Triol AK06 VSD allow you to automatically
determine motor parameters. In combination with the optional Triol Drive tool,
maximum efficiency and stable motor and pump performance are achieved by
precision setting of the vector control algorithm in the VSD.
Starting PMM in vector control mode with Triol AK06
Triol AK06 VSD allows you to start PMM in vector control mode knowing the
basic parameters of the equipment, which are given on the nameplates.
Unknown motor parameters such as: «Rs» is the stator winding resistance of
PMM, «Lsd» is the stator inductance of the motor along the d axis, «Lsq» is the
stator inductance of the motor along the q axis, Psi rotor is the stator winding
flux linkage with the rotor flow; are determined automatically.
A tool to reduce equipment startup time is PMM lib. This library is present in
Triol AK06 VSD with the UMKA03 controller starting from software version
33.58. A feature of this functionality is the ability to select PMM model from a
list of preloaded into the controller. When choosing a motor model, the VSD
controller automatically records the nominal motor parameters necessary for
the operation of the vector control algorithm. The list of recordable parameters
is given below:
«ESM rated power» parameter — motor rated power.
«ESM rated voltage» parameter — motor rated voltage.
«ESM rated current» parameter — motor rated current.
Count poles — the number of PMM poles pairs.
«Motor rated freq.» parameter — motor rated frequency.
«Motor rated PF» parameter — value of motor rated power factor.
Rs — motor stator winding resistance.
Lsd — motor stator inductance of the d axis.
Lsq — motor stator inductance of the q axis.
Psi rotor — flux linkage of the stator winding with the flow of the rotor.
It is recommended to configure the algorithm to work with a specific motor
model in the following sequence:
1. Determine the parameters of the motor «Rs», «Lsd», «Lsq» in the
workshop, if necessary, start on with no load test (having previously
determined inertia moment);
2. Determine the installation moment of inertia and start operating.
The PMM setting algorithm in the vector control mode is given in table 1.

10 The VSD is ready for operation in workshop onsite User data -
* equipment can be started immediately onsite
The total time for the first start of the VSD in vector mode is up to 57 minutes.
Also, there may be time for connecting additional equipment performed by
Customer’s staff. The next runtime is reduced by more than half. This is
achieved by loading the values of the parameters «Rs», «Lsd», «Lsq» of each
motor into the PMM lib. The library file is generated on a PC and can be
downloaded to any VSD.
To start a new motor model, complete all steps 1-10 in the workshop again and
add the new motor model to the library.
It is allowed to start the equipment immediately onsite. In this case, all the same
actions are performed as in the workshop. Parameters «Rs», «Lsd», «Lsq» can
be saved to the library only if they were determined without a cable line
connected to the motor.
Otherwise, the resistance of the cable line is taken into account in the
parameters «Rs», and the inductance of the cable line in the parameters «Lsd»,
«Lsq».
There may be the need for the user to update the VSD software, followed by
restoring the settings and calibrations of the VSD. This operation takes up to 25
minutes. This action applies to the VSD made prior to this manual.
ATTENTION! All personnel must use the product properly and safely
to prevent any injury or any kind of damage.
Preparation processes
In order to start using this functionality, it is necessary that the software version
33.58 or higher is installed in the controller of the VSD, and the IND lower level
controller must be flashed with software version 37.134 or higher.
The ability to select PMM from the list is available for both the «LF PMM VC»
operating mode and the «HF PMM VC» operating mode.
To check and update the current controller software version:
1. Follow the next steps:
«Status display» → « LEFT» → «System» → « RIGHT» → «VSDC parameters»
→ « RIGHT».
1. Check the software
version of the controller and
the VSD:
• The parameter «VSDC
software version»
informs about the
controller version
UMKA03. Version must
be 33.58 or higher;
• The parameter «Drive
software version»
informs about the drive
version IND. Version
must be 37.134 or
higher.
2. If you need to update
the software, follow the steps
below, otherwise go to the
section «Download the PMM
library to the controller».
3. The software update
must be performed according
to the algorithm described in
the document
«Troubleshooting Manual
