General Information
Description
This course is an introduction to the basic concepts of American government, the American political
process, and the rights and responsibilities of citizenship. It is a one semester course designed to meet the
state standards in social studies in the area of government, is a required course for graduation, and will
help prepare students for a college level government course. Additionally, this course serves to create
more informed citizens who are prepared to experience the challenges and benefits that come from being
an actively involved citizen.
Expectations
Students are expected to be in class on time each day with their materials. Students need to bring a folder
or binder to store given notes. Taking notes is not optional, as it will determine part of the student’s grade.
As we finish a section of notes, students will mark important areas with a highlighter to prepare for
quizzes or tests. In class assignments are not designed to require outside work very often, however if
outside work is required, assignments should be turned in on time (typically the next school day).
Homework will be accepted late after the due date for -10 each day. This will be recorded in the behavior
section weekly. Students who have an excused absence will have one day per day absent to make up
work.
