Abstract

Within the NNPC, its subsidiaries are charged with the main responsibility of
providing services
for the Corporation, they are also given the mandate to outsource services from
specialized
companies, most of who have been in the Oil and Gas Industry business long enough.
From the
upstream to the downstream businesses that the Corporation is involved in, some of
these
subsidiaries go into some sort of partnership in the form of joint venture
agreements with some
reputable international service companies operating in Nigeria. Notable to mention
here is the
Integrated Data Services Limited, commonly called IDSL. IDSL has been able to
establish this
sort of partnership through its joint venture with other specialist companies, and
with this step
they have been able to give the Corporation a competitive edge.
The IDSL has a working relationship with two companies in the area of seismic data
acquisition,
on land and swamp. These are the joint venture with United Geophysical Company
(Nigeria)
Limited, and Petroleum Geo-Services ASA (PGS). With United Geophysical Company
(Nigeria)
Limited, they achieved the following; acquired Sercel SN 309 for their operation on
AGIP JOB,
CREW 166 and acquired 4D Seismic Data Acquisition Equipments Sercel SN408 for SPDC
JOB, CREW 165. This subsidiary is working very hard when it comes to providing
services for
the corporation, with an ultimate goal of becoming the centre for the provision of
geophysical
and petroleum engineering services in the world of the Oil and Gas Industry. It is
the intention of
this thesis work to identify with the NNPC and describe how the group through its
respective
subsidiaries provides services for the citizens of the Nigeria and its foreign
customers from
