Message from the Workshop Organizers

UCDAS 2014
It is our pleasure to welcome you to the 1st IEEE International Workshop on User Centered
Design and Adaptive Systems, UCDAS 2014, associated with the 38th IEEE International
Computer Software and Applications Conference, COMPSAC 2014, organized this year in
the beautiful city of Västerås, Sweden. The joint workshop aims to provide a venue for pre-
senting and discussing research and experience results in the modeling, design and develop-
ment of user-centered adaptive systems.
The selection of papers has been based on the careful reviews performed by the Program
Committee members, who set the firm grounds for a high quality joint workshop. In this first
edition, 7 papers will be presented out of 10 submitted ones. The accepted papers range over
topics related to the design of adaptive systems, user modeling, intelligent user interfaces,
novel input devices and sensors, psychological issues, conversational systems, and software
engineering for adaptive systems.
We thank all the authors who submitted papers to UCDAS 2014, and we look forward to an
even larger selection base in the following years. We also thank the members of the Program
Committees, for their thorough assessment of the submissions. The whole process supporting
the workshops benefited from COMPSAC’s 2014 framework, developed by the organizing
committee, steering committee, and especially workshop chairs of COMPSAC 2014, and de-
ployed and maintained by a valuable group of volunteers. We are grateful for their help and
continuous assistance.
We hope that the sessions of the 2014 instance of UCDAS will be an inspiring event in the
attractive context of COMPSAC 2014, and that both academic and industrial participants will
return with new, challenging ideas.
