VOCABULARY UNIT 1

NAME: Lilian C. Hurtado Florez

INSTRUCTION: Write 20 lines using the vocabulary studied in class and retell your
experience as a language learner.

I started studying English since 2009. When I was in school, I wanted to learn English and
my dad supported me. At first, everything I learned was very interesting, but I remember
there was a time when I was bored of Saturday morning classes as my weekend was very
short. I was 12 years old and my biggest interest was having fun with my friends, my dad
started demanding me and it's no longer fun to learn.

My parents' mother tongue is Spanish, so I didn't have anyone to talk to and practice with
either. My friends weren't interested in learning English. At that time I remember that none
of my friends were interested in learning English, their interests were more sporting or
musical. It was hard for me not to be able to share what I learned with other people. At the
time, leave up to the third level.

A year ago, I realized that English is an important language if I want to start traveling and
getting to know places. Once again, I had the support of my parents and I was already
working and could afford some things. This time I have friends abroad who have learned
English there, I have friends who speak the language and my sister-in-law knows English,
that is, I have someone to share this interest with and at the same time, I can practice my
skills.

My strategy to learn the language are listening to music, watching series and reading
things in English. Another strategy is to continue practicing with Duolingo and I started to
handle an English dictionary that offers me the definitions in English. The truth is that lately
I've been thinking about starting to teach my brother, sometimes he has time we practice a
little and so do I practice. I also started helping a friend with her English, for me it's all gain
in that sense. I like English and I like to teach it.

I would love to be able to travel and practice English with native speakers and learn jargon
from them. I hope to be able to speak the language much more and be bilingual to take
advantage of all the opportunities globally that the language offers me.
