Imagine you are the supervisor of a group of employees whose task is to


assemble toy engines and whistles that go into toy trains designed for children and
adult collector. You’ve found that quality is not what it should be and that many of
your devices (components) have to be brought back and reworked; your boss said
right to your face, “You’d better start doing a better job of training your workers”.

a. What are some of the staffing factors that could be contributing to this
problem?
 Lack of knowledge and skills
 Does not know about the product integrating and processing
 Lack of communication with other department.
 Lack of communication between supervisors and staff
 And obliviously you did not train the employee properly so it is also your
mistake. And you don’t know the employee strength and weakness.

b. Explain how you’d go about assessing whether it is in fact a training problem.

How did the participants react or respond to the training?
 Level 2: Learning
what did participants learn from the training?
 Level 3: Behavior
did the trainees take what they learned and put it into practice on-the-job?

did the training meet the stakeholders’ expectations? What was the return on
these expectations (ROE)?
