Q1) Solve each of the following equations. Also verify the solution :

(i) y- (2y+5) – 5(1-2y) = 2( 3+4y ) – 3(y-4)


(ii) (x+2) (x+3)- (x-1)(x+4) = 0
(iii) 2( x+1) – 3(x-5) = 13
(iv) (0.4x-3)/(1.5x+9) = -7/5

Q2) The sum of three consecutive multiples of 6 is 666. Find these multiples.

Q3) One number is three times another number .If 15 is added to both the numbers, then one of the
new number becomes twice that of the other new number. Find the numbers.

Q4) The sum of the digits of a two digit number is 12. The number obtained by interchanging the digits
exceeds the original number by 18. Find the number.

Q5) The difference of two positive numbers is 54. The quotient obtained on dividing the one by other is
4. Find the numbers.

Q6) Bittoo is one third his father’s age. Twelve years hence he will be half as old his father. Find the
present ages of both.

Q7) The length of a rectangle is 4cm more than its width. If the perimeter of the rectangle is 44cm, find
the length and breadth of the rectangle.

Q8) Five years ago, the age of a man was seven times the age of his son. The age of the man will be
three times the age of his son in 5 years from now, find the present ages of the man and his son.

Q9) The difference between two angles is 10°. If these angles are complementary, find the angles.

Q10) Divide 150 into three parts such that the second number is 5/6 th of the first and third number is
4/5th of the second.
