Rev. When I came to Good Shepherd in 2012, I shared ministry tools I had learned from Vibrant Faith
Mary Suomala Folkerds Ministries (VFM), a church organization that got its start as the Youth & Family Institute out of
Lead Pastor Augsburg College. The main concept is that to pass on a vibrant faith to the next generation, five
principle understandings shape our faith sharing:
1. Faith is formed by the power of the Holy Spirit through personal, trusted relationships—often in
our own homes.
2. The Church is a living partnership between the ministry of the home and the ministry of the
congregation.
3. Where Christ is present, the home is the Church, too.
4. Faith is caught more than it is taught.
5. If we want Christian children and youth, we need Christian adults.
