IAF plane returns from Iran with 58 Indians

C-17 Globemaster
aircraft roped in
for evacuation

NEW DELHI
The Indian Air Force (IAF)
C-17 Globemaster aircraft
with Indians evacuated from
COVID-19-hit Iran landed at
Hindon Air Force Station on
Tuesday morning.
“The C-17 returned from
Iran to Hindon airbase this
morning with 58 Indian citi-
zens onboard. The Indians
who have returned from Iran
will be quarantined at Hin-
dan,” the IAF said.
Defence officials said 31
women, 25 men and two chil-
dren were brought back. The
aircraft also carried 529 sam-
ples for investigation.

The C-17 with an IAF med-
ical team and support staff
onboard took off at 8 p.m. on
Monday evening from Hin-
don airbase.

Samples brought back


It brought swab samples of
529 Indians to carry out labo-
ratory tests and check wheth-
er they carry coronavirus
infection.
About 2,000 Indians are
living in Iran, a country that
has witnessed increasing
numbers of coronavirus cas-
es in the last few days.
Soon after the C-17 Globe-
master arrived at Hindon air-
base, External Affairs Minis-
ter S. Jaishankar tweeted,
“The IAF aircraft has landed.
Mission completed. On to the
next.”
The External Affairs Minis-
ter said the government was
working on bringing back
more Indians from Iran.
