January 24-27, 2011

Dear Families,
We hope everyone had a good weekend. This week we will be reading the story The
Mitten. Using props, the children will get to retell the story throughout the week and sequence
the story in order. They will be creating their own story about a mitten, doing an experiment with
ice and mittens, and graphing whether they prefer mittens or gloves. We have a lot of fun
activities planned.
*** We had a parent send $6 last week. PLEASE let us know if you sent that in for
meals. It didn’t have a name and was put in the lunch bag before a name was put on it.
Also, please try to put your child’s name on the envelope or Ziploc bag so that we won’t
have something like this happen again. Thanks and sorry for the mix up!

Activities For Home:

1. After reading a story, act it out with your child with each of you playing different roles. Talk
about the events in the story with your child and do an art project together that illustrates
events in the story. (Some good stories to act out: The 3 Little Pigs, Goldilocks and the 3
Bears, The Mitten…)
2. Talk to your children about the letters of the alphabet but make it fun. Use alphabet books,
puzzles, or just the letters in your child’s name. Talk about letters you see around you- on
signs, books or notes that you write.
3. Have fun rhyming with your child. Sing rhyming songs and read rhyming books together.

Important Dates:
February 23rd- NO PRESCHOOL (early release)
March 9th- NO PRESCHOOL (early release)

Have a great week and stay warm! 
