The people from the Mayflower didn’t know how to grow food or to hunt for wild animals. The Indians,
or Native Americans, helped them. One year later, the people wanted to thank the Indians. They made a
lot of food and had a meal with the Indians. This was the first Thanksgiving dinner. Today, on
Thanksgiving Day, people eat a big turkey dinner with their families. They thank God for the good things
in their lives.
