Rosalind Wan Wong in Recital

with words from my diary, 2014-2016

Wednesday - 4 pm
Words, they mean whatever we please.
There is grandeur in tranqulity.
Loveliness is horrid. I would least of all
wish to be plain lovely.

My Faults...
I never finish something.
I love to begin long projects.
Anything new — I cannot keep Pristine.
I break things.
I do not make time for myself.
I keep myself busy to shut down
reflection on important stages of life.
Currently, the date and time does not matter.

Out of my mind flows tangled webs of ideas.

Most of my time is spent deciphering
my complex, existing thoughts.
Relative to my present actions,
my thoughts arrive out-of-tme,
unanounced, and in a fervor.

Intermission
Notes
We begin and end this next half of the program with the very last
note of the piano, A. The evening air invokes ecstasy of the languid
variety. Day dream runs rampant. The slow waltz gives way to a
thrilling and joyful experimentation on the identity of the octaves.
What does it mean to be farthest away
from oneself? Mélisande makes
an appearance in Canope and her
falling ring echos inside the well.
Monsieur Croche, Debussy’s
mouthpiece, manifests and
mocks in Minstrels.

The sparkling inactivity of sound

brings our head above the clouds,
in awe of the heavenly pagode.
A sultry night of dancing, smoking,
sp(a)inning — the mystique of appeal
erect in the arches of Alhambra.
Out by the fountains, the rain
pours beneath the clouds,
hitting all those beneath
with the same strength,
be it the cobble-paved
paths of the orchard, or
the lilypads in the pond
where the Lady of
Shalott ponders
her ill fate. Nostalgia
and memories flood back
in the form of an archaic
waltz. We end with a
celebration of life, love,
and music’s miraculous
joy. Layers upon layers
of eagerness, never dull,
explode into confetti
of soaring gold.
P lease enjoy the
fragrances in this next
half of the program. ~

Today I looked in the mirror,
and I was Death.
For a split second, all of the world’s goodbyes
blamed me for my evil.
My hollowness
gave them no comfort
as they drew near, because
there was nothing to discover.
Dreaming, surely! They thought—
No, my dear, this is reality.
But I am not to bear the brunt of your finger.
Think what allowed you to

And the stars all align for the soft landing.

And the fog all pass, while the forest is bleeding,
All the joy, all the tears, blended into the essence of veins.
