HYDERABAD: Nizamabad MP Madhu Yashki Goud’s decision to take part in a pro-Telangana meeting
organised by Gadar at Palwancha in Khammam district and his remarks that he will attend anyone’s
meeting for the sake of Telangana have upset the State Congress leadership.

Though the controversial MP had been reiterating his pro-Telangana stand quite often, not many had
taken his moves seriously within the party all these days. Now, the MP’s reported remarks that he had
decided to attend the meeting following the call given by TRS president K. Chandrasekhar Rao have
irked the Congress leadership.

Explanation demanded

At a press conference here on Monday, Gone Prakash Rao, former Chairman of the APSRTC, and Mahesh
Kumar Goud, ex-president of the NSUI, demanded an explanation from him as to whether the MP was
still a Congress member.

Taking exception to his remarks, they asked him to clarify whether he would attend the meetings of
the BJP or the Talli Telangana Party. They asked Mr. Yashki Goud whether he was keeping Rahul
Gandhi posted of these developments as he claimed to be a close friend of the latter and getting away
with his statements.

They advised him to toe the Congress line and not that of the TRS on the Telangana issue.

Yashki gets `backing’ from Keshava Rao

HYDERABAD: APCC president K. Keshava Rao on Tuesday defended Nizamabad MP Madhu Yashki’s
controversial remarks, saying he was explaining the party’s stand on Telangana at various meetings.

Asked as to what action the party was contemplating against the MP, Dr. Rao said at a press conference
here that he had asked the MP to refrain from issuing controversial statements. Mr. Yashki had written
to him, explaining the circumstances under which he made the remarks at a meeting at Palvancha in
Khammam recently.

“He was only explaining the party stand on Telangana at meetings organised by other parties and
organisations,” he said, adding Mr. Yashki had clarified that he had not been faulted by the party high
command on the issue.
The APCC president condemned the alleged manhandling of Vijayawada Mayor Mallika Begum by
corporators and advised them to behave.

Protest against Sai Baba for opposing separate Telangana

January 23, 2007 on 3:44 pm | In English | No Comments

“Sai Baba, who celebrated his 81st birthday recently, had declared at the age of 15 that he was no
ordinary human being, but had come to the earth to fulfil the wishes of the saints and sages.”

By IANS, [RxPG] Hyderabad, Jan 22 - Protesting the remarks of spiritual guru Satya Sai Baba here
Monday opposing a separate Telangana state, people went on a rampage at a Sai Baba temple while his
followers called a shutdown in Puttaparthi town of Anantapur district to condemn remarks on the
guru.Shouting slogans against him, dozens of students belonging to Telangana Rashtra Samiti - barged
into a Sai Baba temple near Osmania University here, pulled down the huge cut outs of Sai Baba and
set them afire after trampling on them.

An effigy of Sai Baba, who termed attempts to bifurcate the state ‘mahapapam’ -, was also burnt.

Addressing a function in Chennai Sunday, Sai Baba said there was no demand for a separate Telangana
state from the people of the region.

‘Dividing the people or the country is not good. Bifurcating the state is mahapapam,’ he said.

Sai Baba, who claims to be reincarnation of Hindu God and preaches love, understanding and universal
brotherhood, has thousands of followers in India and abroad including several heads of state, eminent
politicians, military officials, judges, film stars and sportsmen.

During last few decades, he has built a vast empire worth billions of rupees transforming a small village
of Puttaparthi, his birthplace into a modern town with a state-of-the-art airport, education and health
facilities.

The reaction to his comments was sharp from the protagonists of separate Telangana.

TRS president K. Chandrasekhara Rao asked Sai Baba to confine himself to religion.
‘Is Sai Baba blind to the suicides by farmers in Telangana region? Is he blind to the fact that the region
was subjected to exploitation?’ asked Rao, who is leading the movement for separate statehood
comprising 10 districts including Hyderabad.

Congress MP from Nizamabad Madhu Yaskhi Goud wondered what Sai Baba knew of the problems of
Telangana.

‘He is from Rayalseema region and what does he know about the problem of fluorosis in Nalgonda. He
is funding the water projects for Rayalseema and Chennai,’ said Goud.

Revolutionary balladeer and Maoist sympathiser Gaddar, who is also actively participating in the
movement for separate Telangana, criticised Sai Baba for opposing the demand.

Meanwhile, a shutdown was being observed in Puttaparthi town in Anantapur district to condemn the
remarks of Telangana leaders against Sai Baba. Shops and business establishment were shut down and
Sai Baba’s disciples set afire effigies of Chandrasekhara Rao, Madhu Yashki Goud and Gaddar.

The streets around Prashanti Nilayam, the abode of Baba, wore a deserted look.

Sai Baba, who celebrated his 81st birthday recently, had declared at the age of 15 that he was no
ordinary human being, but had come to the earth to fulfil the wishes of the saints and sages.

Sai Baba also used to perform miracles like producing gold out of thin air but about a decade ago he
stopped doing them in the wake of a controversy and a challenge by rationalists to prove his miracles
in their presence.

Stage set for APCC meet

January 5, 2007 on 10:46 pm | In Telangana Issue, The Hindu | No Comments

YSR set to highlight `Jalayagnam’ and `Bhhoyagnam’
Telangana statehood, Karimnagar bypoll to figure in talks
________________________________________________________________________

HYDERABAD: The stage is set for a two-day brainstorming session of the State Congress Committee
beginning Thursday to review the Congress Government’s performance.

AICC general secretary Digvijay Singh and secretary Iqbal Singh besides Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara
Reddy, APCC chief K. Keshava Rao will attend the meeting at Taramati Baradari. Close to 400 leaders,
including Ministers, MPs, MLAs, PCC office bearers, DCC chiefs and Zilla Parishad chairpersons will
participate.

The Government’s performance in the last 30 months is expected to come under sharp focus, even as
party leaders asserted that no specific agenda had been fixed. A critical review of programmes
undertaken and successes of some schemes and drawbacks of others are expected to be discussed
threadbare.

The Chief Minister is said to be preparing to highlight his Government’s achievements, particularly
`Jalayagnam’ (irrigation) and `Bhooyagnam’ (land distribution). The meeting is likely to adopt
resolutions that would guide the Government and the party to face the next elections.

The separate Telangana issue, which has dominated the political agenda in the State and the
Karimnagar Lok Sabha byelection, will figure in the deliberations. Already, Congress MLAs and MPs from
the region have been putting pressure on the AICC to expedite its decision.
Inhibiting factors

Congress sources said the impending Cabinet expansion and elections to the Legislative Council may
inhibit some leaders from coming out openly against the Government’s policies. But, they do not rule
out the possibility of party leaders, like P. Janardhan Reddy, M. Sashidar Reddy, Madhu Yaskhi and S.
Satyanarayana, from raising the contentious Pothireddypadu issue and the demand for separate
Telangana.

Your Thoughts
October 31, 2006 on 12:45 pm | In Telangana Issue, Q & A | 1 Comment

Hello Madhu,

Happy Diwali wishes to you.

My name is Siva Pagadala. I have been following your move to India and your
subsequent activities with keen interest. I am also a Telugu and have come
back to India couple of years back like you.

Of late I have observed an increased level of activity from your side

towards the formation of a separate Telangana state. You seem to like the
idea of working from with in the Congress party by applying pressure on
Sonia Gandhi to make her agree to a separate state.

I, for one, never understood the rationality in creating smaller states. The
most visible reason put forth by Telangana separatists is the lack of
development in that region. You know more than any body else that
development doesn’t come by creating a separate state. And no one can stop
development of a region because the Chief Minister is not from that region.

There are always inherent and intrinsic reasons why a region doesn’t get
developed. Instead of working towards fixing them, it is always easier to
raise the sentiments of the misguided educated few and the illeterate
masses. That is the work of a true politician. I have immense respect to
what you did and consider you above a typical politician. If you consider
yourself a typical politician, then I will probably stop my questioning you
here.

What Kashmir terrorists are asking for is a natural extension to what

Telangana politicians are asking for. The range of autonomy differs. They
are asking for a separate country because the Indian state neglected their
development and Telangana folks are asking for a separate state because
Andhra politicians neglected their region development. Obviously you don’t
support what Kashmir terrorists are doing. If lack of development is the
soul reason for breaking states and countries, you know there is no
country/state in the world that is immune to this.

Another argument put forth is that Andhra people are exploiting Hyderabad.
You know that in a comptetive and open world, there is no way you can stop
ambitious and enterprenurial people from succeeding anywhere there is an
opportunity. You can not stop that by creating artificial barriers like
state and country. That is what India tried to do for neary 46 years and
failed. US is such a powerful country because top talent is always invited
and they contribute to the growth of the economy.

Hope you respond to my questions. Today the whole world is recognising

India’s Diwali because we are celebrating it as one big nation. The day we
break ourselves into smaller states/countries for petty personal gains no
one respects us.

Congress MP pitches for Telangana

Statehood sentiment `strong,’ says Yaskhi Goud

HYDERABAD: Congress MP from Nizamabad Madhu Yaskhi Goud has said that his party
colleagues from Telangana had apprised AICC chief Sonia Gandhi that the Telangana
sentiment was `very strong.’
Speaking to reporters here on Tuesday, he said the party MPs from Telangana, in an
interaction with Ms. Gandhi after the resignation of TRS Ministers from the Union Cabinet,
had categorically stated that the party could ill-afford to keep the issue pending for long.

“The sentiment is very strong and the identity of Telangana has to be protected,” he said
and hastened to add that development alone was not the only answer to keep the demand
for a separate State pending.

The MPs also told UPA sub-committee chairman Pranab Mukherjee that the Congress should
take a serious view of the people’s aspirations for the separate State.

He claimed that Ms. Sonia Gandhi had stated that Telangana was not a closed chapter.

Storm in Andhra Congress over Telangana issue

October 24, 2006 on 6:37 am | In Telangana Issue | No Comments

Hyderabad, Sep 18 (IANS) The Telangana issue has raised a storm in Andhra Pradesh’s ruling Congress
with party leaders from Telangana and the Andhra region launching verbal duels in public, much to the
embarrassment of the party leadership.

At least two Congress MPs from Telangana recently came out openly in favour of the demand for
separate statehood to the region and lashed out at party counterparts from the Andhra region for
making objectionable remarks against them.

Madhu Yaskhi Goud of Nizamabad and Sarvey Satyanarayana of Siddipet have come out in favour of a
separate Telangana, while L. Rajagopal (Vijayawada) and R. Sambasiva Rao (Guntur) have launched a
tirade against the Telangana leaders.

The Congress leaders from Andhra claim that the Telangana region had developed because of Andhra.
Protesting against their ‘humiliating’ comments, Sarvey Satyanarayana urged the party’s central
leadership to act against him.

This is the first time in two-and-a-half years that the ruling party is witnessing dissidence on this scale.
It comes close on the heels of the embarrassment the party faced when senior minister M.
Satyanarayana Rao threw a challenge to Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) president K. Chandrasekhara
Rao, only to have it boomerang on the party.
Accepting the challenge of Satyanarayana Rao, the TRS chief had last week resigned from his
Karimnagar Lok Sabha seat and dared the minister to quit and fight fresh elections against him.

Satyanarayana Rao reigned but backtracked after the party central leadership took a serious note of
the statements made by him and state unit president K. Keshava Rao against the TRS president. The
Congress appealed to Chandrasekhara Rao to withdraw his resignation.

Chandrasekhara Rao, who along with his party colleague A. Narendra had quit the United Progressive
Alliance (UPA) cabinet over the delay in carving out a separate Telangana state, stuck to his guns. He
has reportedly decided to withdraw support to the UPA coalition.

Encouraged by the success of his strategy to cause a rift in the Congress, Chandrasekhara Rao has asked
Madhu Yaskhi and Sarvey Satyanarayana to quit the Congress and offered to admit them into the TRS.

Meanwhile, Satyanarayana Rao, who is known to rake up controversies, said he was ready to join the
movement for a separate state provided the TRS changed its leadership. He demanded that
Chandrasekhara Rao be removed as party president and party legislator N. Narasimha Reddy be made
the new leader.

The demand for a separate statehood for the region comprising 10 districts, including Hyderabad, is
four decades old. It was revived by the TRS five years ago.
