2.4.6 Classical Music

The Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra is the leading orchestra in our country,


and it is widely regarded as one of the top musical ensembles in the Asia Pacific Region.
The PPO was officially inaugurated on May 15, 1973 as the CCP Philharmonic Orchestra
and was initially envisioned to assist artists performing at the CCP theater. The orchestra
has premiered Filipino compositions and has featured works by foreign composers not
yet performed in the Philippines. It continues to encourage music appreciation through
outreach concerts in schools, parishes, government agencies and underserved
communities in Metro Manila and in different regions in the country.

2.5 Some foundations/organizations that donate any of the following for the schools:

2.5.1 Books, Journals & other reading materials

In the long run, The Asia Foundation has supported local communities to
improve education for students. Books for Asia is The Asia Foundation’s longest running
program and regularly donates books and other reading materials for all educational
levels in over 15 countries. The Books for Asia program have distributed more than 41
million books and journals to more than 50,000 academic and non-academic institutions
throughout Asia since it was started in September 1954. The Philippines alone has been
a recipient of 13 million books and journals to public and private institutions across the
country.

2.5.2 Scholarship for Students

Metrobank Foundation established a scholarship program in 1995 aimed at


providing quality educational opportunities to academically gifted but financially
challenged students. The said foundation also established the Share A Gift A Gift (SAGE)
Program and it aims to support elementary and high school Filipino-Chinese students
enrolled in 95 schools.

2.5.3 Scholarship for Teachers

The PLDT Smart Foundation is investing in our teachers through educational


programs, grants and partnerships that can help improve the overall quality of
education in the Philippines. One of these programs that helps teachers is the Gabay
Guro (Guide Teachers) Program. This program is created with the support of the
Department of Education to foster professional development among Filipino teachers.
2.5.4 Study tour for School Personnel

The Goethe-Institut supports professional exchange between countries


librarians and information specialists. They work in cooperation with different partners
including the American Library Association (ALA). Their services for librarians include
Organization and implementation of study tours.

2.5.5 Films, Tapes & Documentaries

The non-profit World War II Foundation donates its films to schools, educators
and the military, so the personal stories of the WWII generation are accessible for free.
The organization honors the legacy of the veterans and survivors of world war II. To
date, the World War II Foundation has donated 22 films to American Public televisions,
as well as making them available for free to schools and libraries with the goal of
preserving the important stories for current and future generations.

3. On what occasions do school and community officials get together? Identify its purpose.

3.1 Town Celebrations

Town celebrations such as festivals is famous in the Philippines and it is no


wonder that we are traditionally known as the “Capital of the World’s Festivities.” These
celebrations promote civic consciousness. Through these activities, the awareness of the
child to the community and how as an individual he/she might be able to help will be
developed. The pride for their identity and a strong feeling of togetherness will also
become evident.

3.2 Meetings

Schools have coordinated Parent-Teacher and Community Associations with the


officers coming from both their members. Through meetings inside these organizations,
a strong spirit of cooperation can be established as well as sharing of expertise and
tangible resources. This also create solid ties among members of the community and the
school.
